The Marriage She Turned into War novel Chapter 267

I tucked the invitation away and headed straight to the office.

During the day, Hanson dropped by occasionally to chat and check on me. While I appreciated his concern, I couldn't shake off the resentment I felt toward Abigail.

Abigail and I had reached the end of our marriage. We were like a fraying rope, one tug away from snapping entirely.

Yet she refused to let go, unwilling to give up any chance to torment me. Honestly, we should have split up long ago.

She never cared about my health, my well-being, or how I felt. But now, she was telling Hanson I wasn't well and asking him to make sure I didn't overwork.

What was she trying to pull? She was obviously trying to make me seem unfit for work.

Abigail never wanted me to work. She just wanted me by her side, trapped under her thumb. Now that she had the chance to ruin my career, she didn't hesitate.

Frustrated, I knew I needed to have a proper talk with her. But when it came to the auction invitation, I couldn't go around her.

The auction was tomorrow. If she wanted to come with me, I'd go with her. If I didn't let her know, who knew what kind of scene she'd cause?

As expected, Abigail ignored my call. Typical. She rarely picked up when I called.

I had done my part by notifying her. Whether or not she called back was up to her.

I hung up and went to the mall to pick up a suit for the auction. Unfortunately, none of them fit me perfectly. I settled for one that fit me better than the rest.

A chill ran down my spine. I turned and saw Blair, her eyes filled with surprise and delight.

Her harassment over the past few weeks had left me drained. Seeing her now filled me with deep helplessness. It felt like she might pounce on me any second, ready to embarrass me in front of everyone.

I looked at Blair with resignation and nodded politely, hoping she'd keep her composure.

"Hello, Ms. Shepherd," I said.

Blair stepped in front of me, beaming. "What are you doing here? Are you attending the auction too?"
