Maybe Abigail had noticed the change in my expression. Instead of backing off, she pushed even further.
She grabbed my hand and pushed me down onto the bed, her movements bold and unrestrained. The coolness of the evening air contrasted sharply with the heat radiating off her, like a seductive fox fully reveling in its allure.
"Samuel, I want to hear the truth," she demanded.
"The truth about what?"
I had no idea what she was fishing for. It wouldn't be pretty if she wanted me to be honest. The fragile illusion between us would shatter completely.
I wasn't the same man who used to love her deeply. All I wanted now was a peaceful life, far away from the mess she constantly dragged me into.
The last thing I wanted was another confrontation, but Abigail never seemed to tire of stirring up trouble.
Her gaze burned into me as she asked, her tone sharp, "Have you thought through the question Blair asked you the last time?"
I blinked, confused. "What question?"
She let out a cold laugh, clearly annoyed. "Are you seriously playing dumb right now?"
Her irritation left me baffled. I frowned, trying to keep my voice steady. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
She grabbed my wrist, her grip firm, her tone low and menacing. "She asked you who the person you truly love is. Samuel, I don't want to hear any lies. Do you understand?"
The intensity of her words sent a wave of unease through me. It felt like a trap—one she wouldn't let go of until I gave her the answer she wanted.
"Samuel, I want the truth." She grabbed my face, forcing me to look at her. "Why don't you love me anymore? Weren't you the one who loved me the most?"
The intensity of her words was suffocating. I could barely breathe, the weight of her presence crushing me. All I wanted at that moment was to escape.
It took every ounce of effort to steady myself before I finally spoke.
"Abigail, don't you think it's pointless to ask that kind of question?"
She looked at me, startled, as my tone turned sharp and unyielding.
I made no effort to soften the blow as I asked, "Do you really think you're that irresistible? After everything you've done all these years, do you honestly not know why? And yet, you still feel the need to ask?"
