Blair's eyes were tinged red, and she gritted her teeth as she shouted. "I, Blair Shepherd, have loved Samuel since the moment I first laid eyes on him! I love his looks, his talent, and everything about him! I love him so much it hurts!"
She continued, "Abigail, you're always going on about loyalty, but aren't you the one surrounded by men all the time? So what, you can cheat, but Samuel can't? If you can do it, why can't he?
"If you wanted a divorce, you could get one with just a word, but you refused. Instead, you keep him chained by your side. What are you really after, Abigail?"
Tom's face was a storm of rage, and he slapped Blair across the face.
The sound of the slap echoed in her ears. Blair held her cheeks and stared at Tom wide-eyed in shock. "You… you hit me?"
Tom yelled as he pointed at her. "Damn right, I did! You're embarrassing yourself, Blair!"
To Tom, I was nothing more than an eyesore. He despised me, mocked me, and went out of his way to make life difficult for me.
Now, his own sister had fallen for the very man he loathed the most. How could he not be furious?
Anger and rage were almost on the verge of consuming his sanity. For the first time, Tom didn't see his little sister as someone to dote on but as a source of endless frustration.
Blair's eyes welled with tears, but her stubbornness wouldn't let her back down. She grabbed my hand and yelled at the top of her lungs. "Samuel, I really love you! I've never felt this way about anyone before. If you want, I'll stay by your side no matter what role I have to play!
"Samuel, I understand your situation. You don't have to get divorced. I'm willing to be your mistress if that's what it takes! Abigail's got her flings, so why can't you have yours too?"
It seemed Abigail was also curious to see who I would choose. Otherwise, she could have easily stepped on the gas and left Blair behind.
I gazed calmly at Blair. After calming down, I said in a serious tone, "Ms. Shepherd, I hope you can remain rational and level-headed. Don't let a moment of impulsiveness lead you to make a mistake you'll regret.
"Abigail and I are husband and wife. It's only natural for us to be together. You're just a business partner. I will not be with you. Ms. Shepherd, there are plenty of good men in the world. You should broaden your horizons."
What I said was like a sharp blade that went straight to Blair's heart. The light in her eyes slowly dimmed.
Her grip on my hand weakened little by little. She seemed to lose all strength as she slowly sank to the ground.
