623.Chapter 623
Eliza spent the entire journey being driven up the wall by Rafe’s nonstop chatter.
Every time she told him to go talk to someone else, he’d widen his innocent eyes and say, “But you’re the only one I know, sis. I don’t know anyone else. I mean, I know His Highness, but I wouldn’t dare talk to him!”
Rafe’s fear of Nolan was something he declared with absolute confidence, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
But that didn’t make Eliza any less irritated.
In the end, she sent him off to the convoy escorting the Malone family prisoners, telling him to go bother Louisa instead. “Can I turn her into a human swine?” Rafe asked, his eyes lighting up with excitement the moment he heard he could go to Louisa.
“What if she dies on the way? Are you going to take responsibility for that?” Eliza shot back.
“Then can I chop off her hands and feet and slice them up for fun?” he asked, completely undeterred.
Eliza stared at him, dumbfounded. “What is wrong with you?”
“Of course not! If you chop off her hands and feet, how is that any different from turning her into a human swine?” she snapped.
“There’s a huge difference!” Rafe replied, feigning innocence. “A human swine has to be stuffed into a jar. Cutting off hands and feet is way simpler!”
James, the king’s trusted aide, had personally come out of Hasen City to greet them. Bowing deeply, he said with a warm smile, “His Majesty is deeply grateful for your tireless efforts in disaster relief. You’ve brought peace and stability to the people–a true blessing for the kingdom.
“His Majesty, ever considerate, has instructed that you need not report to the palace today. Please take the time to rest and recover. Tomorrow, you may enter the palace to provide a detailed account of the relief efforts.”
Nolan nodded slightly. “Understood. Thank you, James, for bringing us the message. Please also pass on our congratulations to His Majesty on his marriage. Tomorrow, we shall pay our respects to Her Majesty the Queen.” Beside him, Eliza offered a polite nod, her expression calm but thoughtful. “Thank you, James.”
Previously, while Eliza was still traveling to Woteria, the royal wedding had already taken place in Hasen City.
She couldn’t return to Hasen City, and the wedding date couldn’t be postponed for her. Missing Diana’s wedding–the most important day of her best friend’s life–left her with a pang of regret she couldn’t ignore.
