The Lady Nun Seeks Justice (Eliza Stonor) novel Chapter 521

521.Chapter 521

The next moment, a knock sounded from outside the door.

“Gentlemen, I’ve brought the medicine.”

It was Dr. Vaughn Sellers, the one who had saved them.

The guard quickly stepped forward to open the door, allowing Vaughn inside, before cautiously glancing outside. When he saw no one else, he quickly closed the door behind him.

Hubert said, “Thank you for saving my life. The danger outside is great. When you leave later, don’t come back. I don’t want you to get caught up in this.”

Hubert was worried about involving Vaughn, so after he had been saved and settled here, he had asked Vaughn not to

return.

But Vaughn was stubborn. “Enough of that. Save your strength. I saved your life, and as long as I’m here, your injury will heal. If I leave now, you’ll be dead in three days.”

As he spoke, Vaughn pulled out the medicine and tools he had hidden on him.

As Hubert had said, the pharmacies outside were all being watched, and Vaughn couldn’t bring his medical kit with him. So, he had concealed the medicine and tools on his body, sneaking them past the guards.

“Lie down quickly,” Vaughn ordered. “If you move too much and tear the wound, even the king couldn’t save you.”

With no room for argument, Vaughn gently pushed Hubert back onto the straw.

The chicken and duck shed was a crude place, and Hubert had no choice but to lie on the hay. Vaughn carefully examined the wound on his abdomen, his face still serious.

Seeing his expression, Hubert forced a weak smile and said, “Looks like this injury is not going to heal so easily.”

Vaughn glared at him. “Stop saying nonsense. The wound is serious, but with me here, it won’t be a problem. The real issue is the poison in the wound. If it’s not removed, your condition will only worsen, and the wound will never heal.”

“This poison is that powerful?” Hubert asked, his curiosity piqued.

One of the Baker family guards, who had been standing by, couldn’t help but ask, “Even you can’t handle it?” Vaughn was known for his excellent medical skills.

If they hadn’t met him that day, Hubert would have already died from blood loss.

But now, though Hubert had been saved, his survival was still uncertain.

Vaughn shook his head after checking the wound and reapplying medicine. “I do have a way to deal with this poison, but both methods are extremely dangerous. A single mistake could kill you. If you were in good health, they might work, but with your current state, weak and seriously injured, they’re not an option.”

Hubert, curious, asked, “What are these two methods?”

Vaughn, while packing away his supplies, spoke without looking up. “One is to use poison to counteract poison. The other is a blood transfusion.”

Hubert remained silent.

Neither method seemed viable.

Though he trusted Vaughn, both ideas sounded unreliable.

Hubert didn’t voice his concerns.

Vaughn wasn’t offended by the silence. After packing his things, he looked at Hubert. “Don’t worry. Your body can hold on for now. I won’t resort to either of those methods unless it’s absolutely necessary.”

“And you’ve already sent for reinforcements, right? Once they arrive, you can get a real doctor to help you, and you won’t need those methods.”

“Alright, it’s time. Thank you for saving my life. If there’s ever a chance, I’ll repay you. But you should leave now. Please, don‘ t come back.”

Vaughn knew it was time to go. He rubbed against the chicken and duck pens to cover the smell of blood, and only then did he leave.

His expression looked calm, but his eyes had a hint of panic.

He tried to appear relaxed, but his steps were slightly hurried.

It was just a few strange details, but on a normal day, no one would have noticed.

However, today, Vollult Town was crowded, especially since a new group had arrived.

Just as Vaughn turned the corner, two men suddenly blocked his path.

“Hey, are you a doctor from Healing Hall?”

Vaughn’s heart skipped a beat, and he tried to suppress his panic, forcing a calm expression as he nodded, “Yes, I’m a doctor from Healing Hall. What is it? Do you need treatment?”

Vaughn thought that in broad daylight, they wouldn’t dare to capture him, so he planned to dodge the issue.

But to his surprise, as soon as they heard him admit to being a doctor, the two men immediately grabbed him.

“Since you’re a doctor, come with us.”

“You… what are you doing? It’s broad daylight…” Vaughn stammered.

“Shut up, old man. You better come with us. After our master asks you a few questions, if you’re innocent, we’ll let you go. Otherwise, don’t blame us for what happens.”

With a knife drawn, they didn’t care about the people around them and held it to Vaughn’s throat, dragging him away.

But just before they left, a figure from the crowd quietly followed.
