520.Chapter 520
In order to save time, Eliza decided to ride a horse this time instead of taking a carriage, just like the Black Flag soldiers.
As they were leaving Hasen City and passing by Moonshade Pavilion, a familiar voice suddenly called out from the pavilion.
“Eliza, wait!”
Recognizing the voice, Eliza instinctively halted her horse.
She turned to look at Moonshade Pavilion, where a woman was hidden inside, wrapped in layers of clothing.
Though her face was concealed, Eliza immediately recognized her from the sound of her voice.
“Isabelle? Why are you dressed like this?”
Eliza glanced at Isabelle’s outfit and frowned. “What are you doing here?”
Isabelle was dressed in the garb of a servant, completely covering her face, with her hair tucked into a hat, looking as though she didn’t want to be recognized. Her demeanor was quite sneaky.
“Liza, I came to find you,” Isabelle didn’t deny the name Eliza called her by this time.
Eliza asked, “Find me? What do you want?”
Eliza’s gaze shifted slightly, her eyes locking onto Isabelle’s.
Isabelle, half–hidden in the pavilion, looked around before speaking. “I know where you’re going and what you’re planning to do. But I advise you not to go. This time, their target isn’t just Diana…”
Isabelle met Eliza’s eyes and gritted her teeth. “They’re targeting you too.”
Isabelle had thought her special visit might persuade Eliza to stop, but after she spoke, she noticed that Eliza didn’t show any surprise at all.
Isabelle was stunned for a moment, then suddenly realized, her voice filled with disbelief, “Wait, have you known about this already?”
Eliza didn’t answer directly, instead she turned her horse’s head and casually said, “Go back, Isabelle. We don’t need you here.*
With that, she immediately spurred her horse, leading the Black Flag soldiers away.
Isabelle stood frozen, gripping her hands tightly, watching Eliza’s retreating figure until it disappeared from sight.
“We don’t need me?” Isabelle muttered to herself.
A cold, mocking laugh escaped her lips. The next moment, she slammed her fist into a nearby wooden pillar.
The force of the punch left a deep indentation in the pillar, but Isabelle’s hand was unscathed.
“But Liza, what can that useless Diana bring you? She’s incapable of anything,” Isabelle’s eyes burned with resentment, and with one last frustrated remark, she turned to leave.
However, what she didn’t notice was that, as she turned, a small spider, no bigger than a fingernail, had landed on her clothes, following her as she walked away.
Meanwhile, Eliza pressed on, urging her horse forward.
According to the letter Hubert’s messenger had brought Diana, Hubert and Emmitt were ambushed while their boat was docking at Vollult Town, where they were planning to rest.
Vollult Town was only two days away by water from Hasen City, but by land, it would take three days.
After two and a half days of hard riding, Eliza, still full of energy, finally reached Volluit Town with the Black Flag soldiers. The soldiers, exhausted from the journey, couldn’t help but admire Eliza. Despite traveling for two and a half days, they were weary, but Eliza appeared more energetic than they were.
“Your Grace, we’ve arrived at Vollult Town. Should we head into town immediately?”
She quickly took out a veil to hide her face and changed into a blue dress.
With a playful blink, she turned back, and her once calm eyes now sparkled with a mischievous gleam. It was as if she were an innocent young lady, freshly stepping out into the world for the very first time.
Naturally, such a lady would always have a bodyguard accompanying her.
Tina, realizing her role had come, waited as Eliza finished getting ready. Then, Eliza turned to her and said, “Tina, this time you’ll act in the shadows. If I run into trouble, don’t act immediately. Wait for my signal before moving.”
Tina was taken aback. “Serenity, are you planning to risk yourself?”
Eliza smiled lightly. “Not necessarily. But since these people are trying to use Hubert and Emmitt to lure Diana out, they must have prepared well. It won’t be so easy to rescue them, so we might have to act on the situation.”
Hubert and Emmitt were both elders Eliza deeply respected.
This mission was not only for Diana but also because she didn’t want anything to happen to Hubert and Emmitt. After making sure everything was in order, Eliza took a small pack and entered Vollult Town.
*****
Inside Vollult Town, in a filthy, smelly poultry shed, Hubert lay pale on the ground, a deep knife wound in his abdomen, blood soaking through the bandages.
Without the overpowering stench of the chickens and ducks, the scent of blood would have surely spread.
Two guards stood beside him, both badly wounded. Despite their injuries, they held tightly to their knives, watching the surroundings vigilantly.
Just then, footsteps echoed from outside, causing the three of them to immediately tense up.
