Nine immense barriers of nether energy stretched across the sky in successive layers, cutting the abyss off from the outside world. An ordinary cultivator would scarcely take a step inside before the energy corroded their soul, froze their meridians, and ruined their origin.
Yet the terrifying energy, strong enough to suppress a Grand Zenith Immortal, now parted before Jared like a gentle stream. It flowed away to either side, opening a clear path untouched by corrosion and refusing to approach him.
He passed through all nine barriers without resistance and reached Elder Nether's hidden cave residence.
The interior was dim and quiet, suffused with an ancient stillness.
Elder Nether sat as before on a black stone stool, his aged back hunched, a long, weathered black smoking pipe resting between his bony fingers.
A ghostly blue nether flame burned quietly in the bowl. Thin tendrils of smoke rose through the cave, carrying a cool, distinctive fragrance that cleared the mind and soothed the soul.
The moment Jared stepped inside, the old man's ancient, untroubled blue eyes blazed to life.
Like two primordial flames awakening after an endless slumber, they burned with dazzling brilliance.
Elder Nether looked up slowly. His gaze fixed on Jared and traveled over him, probing his aura, meridians, soul, and origin power. Shock and satisfaction grew in his eyes until he could barely contain them.
"You're back," he said in a low, weathered voice, burdened with the passage of countless ages. "And you've undergone a complete transformation."
He set down his pipe and ran his fingers over its worn patterns. "You've been gone only a few days, yet the change in you is beyond anything I imagined. Your chaotic force has been refined to an extraordinary degree. It's pure, immense, and overwhelming, and it finally carries the true presence of the source of all laws. It's no longer the shallow beginning it once was. The Water Clan origin power within you has also taken root completely. It's flawless and pure, blended perfectly with your chaotic force. The two strengthen each other rather than conflict."
"Most importantly, your state of mind, breadth of vision, understanding of killing, and mastery over power have all risen to a new level. You no longer need to rely on chaotic force to forcibly suppress the nether energy from the rift. The pressure of your origin power alone can now overawe and crush everything the demonic soul releases."
Jared crossed to the stone stool opposite him and sat down. His violet eyes were clear and determined. "Senior, we can't leave the demonic soul in that rift alive any longer."
Elder Nether fell briefly silent, a shadow of concern entering his eyes. "Do you understand that the demonic soul has existed since antiquity? It's rooted in the origin of the spatial rift and has become intertwined with the laws of darkness in this world. Its hold runs deep. Destroying it is exceedingly difficult. Generations of powerful Ghost Clan cultivators tried to kill it, only to fail. Many suffered backlash that annihilated their souls and shattered their paths to immortality. Are you certain you want to enter alone and eradicate it?"
"I'm certain." Jared's voice was firm and unshakable. "What I suppressed before were only tendrils of nether energy leaking from it—the outermost layer of its power. It looked as if I'd brought the danger under control, but I only treated the symptoms. The source is still there, hiding in the deepest part of the rift, quietly gathering strength and repairing its injuries."
"If we allow it to recover, it could completely heal its ancient wounds within half a year and break through the rift's seal. Then demonic aura and nether energy would sweep across the world. The Nether Abyss would become a demonic domain, and the entire Void Sea—perhaps even every territory of the Twenty-First Firmament—would be contaminated. Countless lives would be ruined and order would collapse. As long as this ancient scourge exists, the world will never know peace."
