"Senior, do you still want to fight?" Jared asked calmly.
The old man's body shook.
He immediately withdrew all his pressure.
A smile rushed onto his face, though anyone could tell it was forced.
"No... no fighting. No fighting at all. Misunderstanding. This is all a misunderstanding."
Jared looked at the old man's cowardly act and shook his head.
"Senior, you changed your mind rather quickly. Were you not threatening to kill me just now?"
The old man waved both hands in panic.
"I would not dare. I would not dare. I was blind just now and failed to recognize you. Please be generous. Do not lower yourself to my level."
As he spoke, he cursed himself inwardly for having no eyes.
If he had known this walking disaster was Jared, he would rather have beaten himself to death than come out and threaten him.
The old Golden Immortal still had a deep fear of Mr. Sanders.
Jared sighed.
"Senior, you do not need to be so nervous. I said I meant no harm. It is just that this tower of yours... is not exactly honest.
"Scamming people is already bad enough. But charging more on every floor until their pockets are empty is a little too much."
A bitter look appeared on the old man's face.
"I... I had no choice. After you ruined the Celestial Stairway, I took the young acolyte with me and wandered around with nowhere to settle.
"It was not easy coming up with this way to make a living. I do not have any other skill. This is the only thing I can rely on."
Jared looked at him and felt complicated.
He did not actually hate this old man.
Back on the Celestial Stairway, the old man had set up plenty of obstacles, but in the end, when Jared challenged the floors, he had gone easy on him and had not truly blocked his path.
After the Celestial Stairway was destroyed, the old man had not come to settle accounts with him either. He had simply left quietly with the young acolyte.
In the end, the old man loved money, but he was not evil.
At least, he had never truly been bad to Jared.
"Senior, stop scamming people," Jared said. "Come work with me."
The old man froze.
"Work with you?"
"Yes." Jared nodded. "You want crystals? I have plenty. Look."
He took a pouch of supreme-grade crystals from his Storage Ring and casually poured them onto the ground.
Purple light flashed as the crystals piled into a small hill.
At a rough glance, there were at least a thousand of them.
"That is one hundred thousand supreme-grade crystals. Converted to high-grade crystals, it is ten million."
Jared's voice was calm.
"And if you agree, this is only a portion."
The old man's eyes went round as bronze bells.
His mouth opened wide enough to fit an egg.
Ten million high-grade crystals.
He had worked himself to death building the tower, lying, charging fees floor by floor, and he would only earn a few hundred thousand high-grade crystals in a day.
Jared casually took out ten million.
"This... this..."
The old man's tongue tied itself in knots. "How do you... have so many crystals?"
Jared smiled.
"I destroyed a few forces and emptied their treasuries. It is nothing. There will be more later."
The old man trembled.
Destroyed a few forces.
Emptied their treasuries.
Was this young man already running wild in the Nineteenth Firmament too?
The last trace of luck in his heart vanished.
This young man could not be offended.
"I... I will work with you."
The old man's voice was hoarse, but a sense of relief entered it. "But I have one condition."
"What condition?"
"You have to feed us. The young acolyte is still outside collecting money. He has followed me for many years and suffered a lot."
Jared laughed.
"Do not worry. Follow me, and there will be meat to eat."
