Nathan said nothing. He straightened up, took a few steps back, then turned around and walked out.
He left.
Ivy slowly opened her eyes. Large tears still slid down.
At that moment, a gentle ringtone broke the silence. Her phone was ringing.
Ivy took out her phone. It was Tabitha calling. She answered, and her mother's voice came through immediately.
"Hello, Ivy dear."
"Mom."
"Ivy, that illegitimate girl went to see you, didn't she? You're pregnant now. That homewrecker and her daughter must be panicking. The Quinns won't let them through the door. Quinn Corporation kicked them out, too. Watching them fall apart is so satisfying! It really eased some of the anger I've been carrying all these years."
Ivy stared at the ceiling of her office and didn't say a word.
"Why aren't you saying anything?" Tabitha asked.
"It's nothing, Mom. I'm listening."
"You're pregnant now. Don't work yourself so hard. You have to make sure the baby is born safe and healthy."
"Okay."
"I know how hard you've worked all these years. I know you've suffered. The thing I'm most proud of in my life is having you as my daughter. You're my pride and joy."
Ivy tightened her grip on the phone. "Thanks, Mom. I'll be fine. Don't worry."
"Good."
They ended the call. Ivy lowered the phone, sat up, and placed it into her bag.
She looked at herself in the mirror.
Her face was pale, her eyes empty. She didn't even know what she was thinking anymore.
She had grown up in a deeply unhappy family. She didn't know what a father's love felt like.
Ivy only knew that from the moment Tabitha had once tried to take her own life, Ivy had no choice but to succeed. She had to fight Noelle and Kate.
