Jared couldn't even secure his own job, let alone protect someone else's child.
Noticing Yvonne's expression darken, I grabbed her shoulders and squeezed them.
"Yvonne, don't be naive. You don't even care about your own child, yet you expect Jared to take care of him for you?"
I didn't trust either of them.
"If it weren't for Xavier not wanting to leave you, do you think I'd let him stay here?"
These two would eventually ruin Xavier, and I absolutely couldn't let that happen.
Yvonne frowned, unable to find a retort. Her fingers were trembling. Just as I was about to keep pressuring her, a series of hurried footsteps sounded from behind me.
"Cole, I know you're impressive, but you've gone too far!"
Jared hadn't intended to show himself, but Yvonne's falter worried him. He feared she might hand over Xavier's contract in the next moment.
"Finally willing to show yourself, huh?" I glanced in his direction and mocked, "Your taste in women is impeccable. You found a woman who's willing to take the fall for you."
Yvonne turned toward me and tried to explain, but I dismissed her with a wave. I couldn't be bothered to argue with her.
"Where's Xavier's contract?"
"It's indeed with me," Jared admitted, spreading his hands.
He took a seat across from me and continued, "We've signed a ten-year contract. If you want to take him away, you'll need to pay me a termination fee of at least a hundred million dollars."
"A hundred million dollars?" I echoed, wondering if he was implying that Xavier could earn that much in ten years.
Sensing my skepticism, Jared smiled and said, "Cole, I might lack business acumen, but you've got to trust my gut when it comes to the entertainment industry."
He thought he could provoke me with this.
Looking indifferent, I shrugged and replied, "It doesn't matter. I treat all three of my children equally. Xavier chose the entertainment industry because of passion, not as a last resort."
Jared's family background was a taboo topic in the entertainment industry. No one dared to bring it up in front of him.
At the end of the day, he was just an entertainer. The families of the upper crust looked down on people like him, but he was too stubborn.
He was obsessed with the idea of marrying someone with the same social standing. Thus, he'd rather marry a divorced woman like Yvonne than any unmarried woman in the industry.
Jared made the right choice, though. Yvonne was very protective of him—just look at her now.
"Cole, you're going too far!" she shouted, shielding Jared with her arms as she glowered at me.
