The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 303

I scowled at the reporters and snapped, "Xavier is also my son. How could I possibly neglect him?"

Taking the microphone, I continued, "Since everyone is here, listen carefully—Xavier will always be my son, and my family supports his decision to venture into the entertainment industry."

The reporters grinned as though they had just landed a big scoop.

"Is Mrs. Joplin Senior really supportive of Xavier? We've heard that she refuses to acknowledge him as a Joplin."

Their stance was aggressive, but I simply shoved one of the microphones away from me and replied, "She is. We're two different individuals, so, of course, we'll have different opinions."

I immediately left, not giving them a chance to ponder my words.

The moment I arrived at Langley Group, Yvonne received the news.

Looking distressed, she glanced at Jared beside her and asked, "What should we do? He's here to fight me for custody of the child."

Now that Xavier's fame had skyrocketed, she absolutely wouldn't let me take him away.

"Don't worry," Jared reassured her. "You have legal custody of Xavier. Even if he wants to take the child away by force, he'll have to go through a lawsuit."

Hearing this, Yvonne finally felt relieved. She sat by the door to wait for me.

The door opened, and she rose.

"You're here," she began.

"You already saw me earlier. Aren't you worried that I might spill something to the reporters?" I asked, wondering when she had become so composed.

I glanced around but didn't see anyone else in the room. Yvonne stepped aside, and I took her seat.

As I met her gaze, she replied confidently, "I believe you won't ruin Xavier's reputation."

I took a sip of the tea she offered. It was unbearably bitter, so I set it down and got straight to the point. "Where is he?"

"Xavier is resting at home," Yvonne replied, drinking her tea leisurely.

I extended my hand and looked at her coldly. "Transfer it to me."

As Xavier's father, there was no way I would let him suffer.

"No way. Transferring it to you right now would be a breach of contract. I can't give it to you," Yvonne said, turning to the side with a frown.

Noting her troubled expression, I said, "You don't want to give it to me because you're worried that you won't be able to control Xavier anymore, right?"

What kind of mother would want her child to be stuck in such a miserable situation?

"Do you remember Harrison? Do you think he'll spare Xavier?"

I had looked into him. That guy had connections in both legal and illegal circles. He could easily take down anyone he pleased.

"Do you really think Jared is capable of protecting Xavier?"
