The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 301

Jonas turned toward me. He wondered if I'd really abandon him if I had another child.

Though he believed that I wouldn't do that, he was worried that I might neglect him.

Seeing how hesitant Jonas was, Xavier grew impatient. "Can you hurry up? Are you leaving with me and Mommy or not?"

"But Daddy…" Jonas trailed off, seemingly worried.

"He doesn't even care about you anymore," Xavier snapped. "Why do you still bother with him?"

He had thought I would help him. If I was telling the truth and he could actually open a company, it would be much easier for him to work. He could lighten Yvonne's burden as well. But now that I had another child, he assumed that I wouldn't be bothered with them.

Xavier shot Jonas a confident look. "Stop waiting for him. Just come with us."

Yvonne stood behind Xavier, feeling somewhat uneasy. In fact, she didn't want to take Jonas with her. His timid and ineloquent nature simply wasn't cut for the entertainment industry.

But since Xavier had offered and Jonas was also her child, she couldn't bring herself to refuse.

She approached Jonas with a frown and asked, "Jonas, do you want to come with me?"

Little did Jonas expect her to chime in. He retreated a few steps back, looking distressed.

"Jonas, if you'd like to come with me—"

"No." He jerked his head aside, his reluctance evident on his face. "I'm not leaving with you. You guys should just go. I'm staying with Daddy."

Xavier frowned. Just as he was about to say something, Yvonne grabbed his shoulders.

She heaved a sigh of relief and said, "Xavier, since Jonas doesn't want to come with us, let's not force him."

Glancing in my direction, she prepared to take Xavier away while I wasn't looking.

"But he—"

As soon as I heard Jonas' voice, it finally dawned on me that I had forgotten about him. I felt slightly nervous when I saw Lorraine guiding Jonas to her belly.

My breath hitched. I wanted to tell him to be careful, but I was worried that I might startle him.

"Jonas, you're going to be a brother soon," Lorraine began. "I know you might not be happy about it."

After all this time spent together, she was familiar with Jonas' personality and temperament. He might be quiet, but he was actually very sensitive.

"Don't worry. Even though I'm pregnant, your dad and I will never neglect you," she reassured him. "I believe you'll treat the baby well too, won't you? He's your younger brother, after all."

Jonas' simmering displeasure was suddenly replaced by a surge of responsibility when he heard that.

"Don't worry, Ms. Sommerton. I'll take good care of him."

Smiling, Lorraine patted his head and turned toward me.
