The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 258

Every time Yvonne said that, Xavier would take a deep breath. She knew that Xavier didn't want to stay with me. Those words were like a magic spell. Every time she brought it up, Xavier would become very obedient.

"Mommy, I really think I didn't do anything wrong." This time, however, he held his ground.

In fact, he felt like living with his father might be a good thing. At the very least, he wouldn't need to join the entertainment industry. His face was getting stiff from having to smile so much every day.

"Xavier, are you being disobedient right now?" Yvonne's patience was beginning to run thin. If she had known how stubborn Xavier could be, she would have taken Jonas back then instead.

"Mommy, I really don't want to—"

"If you don't apologize, I won't even let you in the house," I interrupted.

I knew the password for Yvonne's house. It had been so many years, and she hadn't changed it.

"Cole? Who let you in?" Yvonne exclaimed. She looked incredibly worried when she saw me. I knew she was concerned that I would take Xavier away.

I had always been worried that she would corrupt Xavier. Yet it seemed like she didn't even need to corrupt him. Xavier seemed to have corrupted himself.

"Yvonne, I never thought you could be so cruel. You actually encouraged your own child to harm his brother. How could you be so cruel?" I said.

Xavier had grown up with her. Naturally, he saw Jonas and I as his enemies.

Now, with just a few followers, he knew how to manipulate others to harm his brother. What would he become as an adult?

"I don't need any excuses from you. Xavier will only get worse if he continues to stay with you. I'm going to take him with me," I declared.

At those words, Yvonne pulled Xavier close and hid him behind her.

"How's Jonas?" She ignored what I said and tried to change the topic. If I took Xavier away, they would need to pay some hefty penalties for breaking the contracts with other companies.

"You have no right to ask about him," I said.

What right did she have to ask about Jonas' condition? A mother who only cared about exploiting her son for money wasn't worth having around.

I said flatly, "Once his behavior improves, I'll send him back to you."

Xavier roughly understood my intentions at this point, and he started to yell at the top of his lungs, "I'm not going to juvenile detention! What gives you the right to control me? I'm not even your son…"

A resounding slap echoed through the room. Xavier's eyes were full of terror and fury.

"Cole, how could you hit him?" Yvonne cried out.

I had never hit my children before. I always indulged them.

But I couldn't stop myself this time.

"Do you know why I hit you?" I asked.

Xavier thought for a moment before he looked up at me defiantly. "I do, but I don't think I did anything wrong."
