The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 252

Yvonne's eyes reddened with emotion.

She pulled Xavier into a hug. "Don't worry, Xavier. I'd never do anything to hurt you. I promise you—once the company is back to normal, I won't ever make you do anything you don't like, okay?"

Xavier nodded at those words. As long as he managed to help his mother get the company running smoothly again, he wouldn't have to participate in these competitions anymore.

"It won't take long," he comforted himself.

Just as he said that, there was a loud crash behind him.

Yvonne turned around to see that a white sports car had rear-ended her vehicle.

"Who drives like that?" Right as she said that, I walked out of the car with Murphy.

"Get out." I knocked on the car and motioned for her to step out.

"Xavier, stay in the car and wait for me." Since she couldn't escape, she would have to face it.

I couldn't contain my anger when I saw Yvonne. "What are you thinking? Do you realize that this broadcast will cause everyone to know about Xavier?"

Even if it wasn't the whole world, at least some people would find out about his coding talent.

"Isn't that a good thing? Xavier is talented in this area. Why do you want to hide it?" Yvonne retorted.

I said, "His talent doesn't need to be on public display."

I couldn't stop myself from grabbing her. "Do you understand the consequences of your actions?"

"I don't!" she snapped back.

She pushed my hand away and stood her ground. "As long as Xavier enjoys it, I'm willing to do anything for him."

Her self-righteous expression made it clear that she didn't think anything was wrong with what she did.

"Yvonne, you're exploiting your son," I accused.

Xavier looked down and bit his lip. "Daddy, no one is forcing me to do anything. Please don't blame Mommy anymore."

His tone was a helpless one, but the look in his eyes was clear. Jared somehow caught wind of this and showed up unexpectedly. All I could do was watch Xavier leave with them.

In the car, Murphy said nothing, but he looked at me with an uneasy expression.

"Mr. Joplin, are we just letting them go like this?" he asked.

"What else can I do?" Xavier was with her. What could I possibly do?

If Xavier had said that he didn't want to participate in the competition, I could have forcibly taken him back.

It was starting to become a big mess. Fabian's demands were getting unreasonable too. He demanded half of my real estate in the region right at the start. Unless I handed over the contracts I negotiated with the Langley family, I wouldn't be able to sate his appetite.

I said, "Give Fabian a call. Have him come for a meeting in person."
