"I clearly warned her." I had explicitly told Yvonne not to exploit Xavier for money. I didn't expect her to send him to a competition the moment they returned.
But she still listened to me and did not make Xavier live stream.
"Phone," I demanded.
I couldn't stop myself and immediately called Yvonne, but the line was busy.
"Did she switch off her phone?" I mused.
I looked at Murphy and ordered, "Find out where this competition is being held."
…
At the competition venue, Yvonne stared at the string of missed calls on her phone for a moment before deciding to turn it off.
The results of the competition came out quickly, and unsurprisingly, Xavier took first place. Yvonne looked at the reporters with a happy smile on her face.
"Ms. Langley, did you always intend to raise Xavier to learn to code?"
"Ms. Langley, does Mr. Joplin know about Xavier's talents in this field?"
"Ms. Langley, did you let Xavier participate in this competition as revenge against Mr. Joplin for leaving you?"
Hearing that, Xavier's expression darkened. "Daddy didn't abandon us. He and Mommy separated amicably."
He did not understand it, but he knew that his parents separated for a reason.
Xavier seemed clearly irritated at the fabrications from those reporters. "Stop making things up. We're going back."
"Xavier, the reporters aren't done interviewing you. How can you just leave?" Yvonne grabbed Xavier's wrist.
"Mommy, I don't want to compete anymore."
Xavier just wanted to study. He didn't want to compete for titles against these people. He didn't want others to know he could code either.
"Xavier, I understand it's hard for you." Yvonne frowned.
She looked at him helplessly. "But my company is really struggling right now. You're the only one who can help me."
Since I wouldn't let Xavier do livestreaming, she decided to turn him into a child prodigy. As long as he could attract endorsements, money wouldn't be a problem.
Xavier lowered his head and hesitated for a long time. Then, he nodded reluctantly.
"Mommy, I'll help you." He didn't want to see Yvonne upset.
Xavier added, "But once I've helped you earn money, can you stop making me compete in these competitions?"
