The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 236

Xavier nodded his head sadly. "Daddy, I'm sorry."

My heart ached terribly hearing his apology. I hugged him in my arms and slowly felt better. A few minutes later, Xavier looked at me worryingly. "Daddy, has Mommy really gone back?"

He was worried about Yvonne, thinking she might be kidnapped.

"Don't worry. I've sent someone to watch over her." I patted Xavier on the head, not noticing Lorraine's smile turning into a disappointed and helpless frown.

Before getting married to me, she had already known that Yvonne and I would still be in touch. When she heard what I said to Xavier, she thought that I still loved Yvonne.

She had a feeling that if it weren't for the fact that I could not leave, I would've sent Yvonne back on my own.

She turned around, not wanting me to realize her disappointment.

After consoling Xavier, I looked up to see Lorraine sitting on the couch with her head lowered. I wondered what she was thinking about.

I walked over to her and hugged her in my arms. With Xavier around, we couldn't do anything else.

"I'm a little tired," Lorraine said reluctantly. She dodged my kisses awkwardly too.

"What's going on?" I could sense her reluctance. "Are you feeling unwell?" I saw how hesitant she looked and found it odd. "Don't worry. I won't touch you. I just want to hug you."

I nudged at her to look at Xavier. "He's here. I won't do anything."

Lorraine had a grim expression.

My first reaction was that she was sick. "If you're feeling unwell, we'll go to the hospital."

To my surprise, Lorraine pushed me away and went to a different corner. I was getting confused by her reaction, so I decided to follow her.

"Who says that being jealous is unreasonable?" I touched her cheek. "I've been waiting for this day."

Lorraine looked at me in confusion. I kissed her.

"If you're mad, that's how I know that you really like me." During our marriage, Lorraine had indeed been quite lukewarm toward me. It was as if we were business partners instead.

I really hoped to find someone who truly loved me, but this was way too much to ask for. I thought that Lorraine only married me to have a stable life.

"Don't worry, I'll never get back together with Yvonne," I promised her.

Our conversation was soft because we were afraid we would wake Xavier up. Little did we know that he heard everything I said.

He bit his lip under the covers. "They're never getting back together?"
