"What? Do you expect a limo?"
I didn't even arrange for a limo during my wedding to Lorraine.
Yvonne's expression turned ugly when she heard my mockery. She frowned maliciously.
"Yvonne, don't look at me like that. You know me better than anybody. You don't have to test me that way."
I had long guessed her reason for insisting on taking Xavier away. She was just testing me to see if I would make her stay. "I have Lorraine with me. You can do whatever you like."
That was my final answer.
Yvonne blushed. She looked at the opened door with gritted teeth. She had already declared her stance, and there was no taking it back.
Xavier popped his head out of the room and snuck glances at Yvonne. She hesitated for a long time before leaving the room.
"Yvonne…" Lorraine was about to go after her, but I stopped her. "Don't go."
"But she's just a lady."
Xavier had a target on his back, so Lorraine thought that it would be the same for Yvonne. Although Yvonne was divorced from me, she was still my ex-wife.
"Don't worry. She'll be fine."
"Why?" Lorraine looked confused. "Would those people let her go?"
"Yes. They'll let her go." I smirked at Lorraine.
Lorraine instantly understood what I meant. "You're saying that they have something to do with Yvonne? But Xavier is her son?"
Lorraine thought that Yvonne might be selfish, but she would not be so cruel as to risk her son's life.
Xavier was just doing it out of kindness. He just never thought that he would get in trouble. I truly could not find it in me to reprimand him. It was the same for Lorraine too.
I looked at Xavier's tears and wiped them away. "Xavier, I'm not blaming you. I was just worried about you."
If he had not called me, where would he have ended up? Would he have been captured? Or would he be dead? Those men did not care about children at all. They would do anything to achieve their goal.
No one knew if they would have called me or not after getting their hands on Xavier or whether I would pick up the phone.
Everything was unknown. All these unknowns could have happened to Xavier.
"Xavier, if you really understand, you wouldn't let me worry about you." I placed my hand on his shoulders. "I appreciate what you're trying to do, but you doing this will make me unhappy because you're placing yourself in danger. Do you understand?"
I hoped he understood that he and his brother were the most important things to me in this life.
