I walked over to the leader of the hotel staff. He smiled stiffly at me, his eyes a little shifty.
"It looks like you never wanted to capture him in the first place."
I was about to throw a punch at him when the door behind me opened. Yvonne threw herself onto me, sobbing, "Cole, I knew you'd come."
She was sweating profusely with her hair stuck to her face. She had not even removed her makeup.
The lighting in her room was dark, only dimly lit by the light coming from her laptop screen. Luckily, she was not asleep yet. If she had gone to bed, one could not imagine what would've happened.
I scanned around and saw no bodyguards. I had clearly arranged bodyguards for her. Why was no one here?
"Did you hear anything strange in your room?"
Did that man kidnap all of my bodyguards? Was this something one person could do?
I started to be more wary about the entire incident. That man surely had an accomplice. He could not possibly have gotten rid of all the bodyguards on his own.
"I heard the door lock opening."
Yvonne knew I had sent her quite a lot of bodyguards. She finally realized something was off. "Y-Your men. They're gone."
She was smart. She instantly knew what had happened.
"If I'm right, they've been killed."
First, Xavier. Then, Yvonne.
"Looks like these bunch of people know me well."
What were they trying to do? Intimidate me?
Yvonne looked at me in confusion. "Cole, do you know those men?"
"What if they're dead?" the police officer, seemingly sensing something, asked.
"Even if they're dead, I want to see their bodies." I would give them a proper burial instead of letting them die in some godforsaken place.
The police officer looked at me with a little apprehension. "We can't even locate them now."
"It has been barely less than 24 hours, yet you're already giving up? Or perhaps, you never wanted to look for them in the first place?" I went in closer, towering over him.
The police officer looked at me with widened eyes. "Mr. Joplin, there must be a misunderstanding. We'll surely attend to your matters."
"Then, do it quickly. Let me know if you have any news."
I looked at them condescendingly as they fled the scene.
Yvonne, standing next to me, asked timidly, "Will Lorraine be mad to see me?"
