I wasn't angry at all when I saw Gerald's antics. Once he was done throwing his tantrum, I waved a hand at Murphy again.
"Call the police."
It was best to let the police handle unreasonable hooligans like Gerald.
I didn't know when exactly Lorraine had entered my office. She stood next to me while staring at Gerald solemnly.
"I'm sorry. I'll leave with my father right now."
Lorraine moved to grab Gerald's wrist. I could tell that she still had a flicker of hope for him.
"Where do you think you're going with him?" I echoed coldly.
There was no way Lorraine wouldn't know what Gerald was planning to do. A soft-hearted woman like her was doomed to be manipulated by others for the rest of her life.
"Lorraine, if you really want money, I can always give it to you. But you can never give money to your father."
Judging from Gerald's current state, I had a feeling that Lorraine would always wire him his living expenses. That was why he had grown bold enough to demand money from me right away.
"I know. Let me take my dad home first."
Just as Lorraine was about to leave with Gerald, she saw the police officers standing outside the office.
"Mr. Joplin."
I waved at them. "You're not needed for now."
Lorraine went pale at the sight of the police. Clearly, she hadn't expected me to call the cops on Gerald.
"Cole, are you going to get my dad—"
"I just wanted to scare him into submission."
When I noticed how much Lorraine was trembling from her anxiety, I could only sigh helplessly.
"I'll let today's incident slide."
Since Gerald's ruckus didn't cause much damage to the company's operations, I could choose to ignore what happened today.
Still, I couldn't just let him walk away scot-free. "Officer, this man has trespassed into my private property. According to the law, shouldn't he be locked up for a few days?"
Trespassing? What?
Lorraine widened her eyes in shock. I was the one who had invited Gerald into my office, after all.
Then, I waved at the police officers. "Officer—"
"Why are you talking to the police?" Gerald's expression twisted into one of malice. There weren't any emotions in his eyes.
Lorraine, on the other hand, frowned in worry. She was afraid that I might get into a fight with Gerald.
"I'm all ears, Mr. Sommerton."
I looked at Lorraine before leading her over to Gerald. "But you shouldn't be apologizing to me. She should be the one you apologize to."
Gerald's expression darkened even more. He shook Lorraine's hand off his wrist.
"You want me to apologize to my own daughter? Are you crazy?"
It was bad enough that he failed to evoke respect and awe within me as my father-in-law. To think that he was now forced to apologize to his own daughter!
Gerald glared at Lorraine immediately. He threatened, "You also want me to apologize to you, huh?"
Lorraine waved her hands immediately. "That's not what I want!"
"You'd better be truthful about it." A malicious scowl appeared on Gerald's face. "Otherwise, I'll screw you over!"
