The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 171

Although the Sommerton family had their own business, their company was on a smaller scale. They were just people who happened to strike the jackpot at the right time.

Chad Sommerton was the eldest son in the family, yet he was a bumbling idiot who had no skills of his own. He had already spent the entire family fortune a long time ago.

In a way, the Sommertons were very lucky to have a daughter as obedient as Lorraine.

I pointed at the guest lounge next door. "You wanna think about it? You can either negotiate with me in that room, or you can wait for me to get my security guards to throw you out."

Obviously, Gerald was here to get his grubby hands on money. He didn't even hesitate to walk into the guest lounge.

"Cole, don't give him any money."

"Don't worry. I'll deal with him appropriately."

I patted Lorraine on the shoulder before telling her to leave with Murphy.

When I walked into the guest lounge, Gerald reclined on the couch in a state of relaxation.

"What would you like to drink?"

"Shouldn't you address me with more respect? I'm your father-in-law, after all."

I just chortled in return. Gerald's shameless statement almost caused me to choke on my tea.

"What makes you think you have the right to make me address you as my father-in-law?"

"My daughter married you, didn't she? Either way, you still have to treat me with the respect I deserve. You two haven't held a wedding yet, right?"

Gerald frowned. It seemed that Lorraine was getting bolder over the days. If he hadn't seen the news on his phone, he wouldn't have known that she was married.

"We're not in a rush to hold the wedding. That's between me and Lorraine, after all. Now, let's talk about what's going to happen between you and me."

I pulled out a check and filled in a figure. "I can only give you this much."

"Three million dollars? What is this, chum change?"

Gerald tossed the check aside in dissatisfaction. "The Sommertons are public figures at the end of the day! We might not be as rich as you Joplins, but our company is still pretty formidable in the business world!"

He huffed coldly after that. "Do you know how much the other scions are offering me for Lorraine's hand? You should count your lucky stars that my daughter chose to marry you in the first place!"

"You only had one chance."

I waved a hand at Murphy. "Take him away."

"Let go of me! You have no right to chase me out of here! Do you know who I am? I'm the father of your boss' wife!"

Gerald shook Murphy's hand off while screaming at the top of his lungs. Everyone outside my office could hear his voice.

Lorraine stood at the office's doorway with an anxious look on her face. There were times when she almost gave in to her urge to enter my office, but she managed to stop herself after recalling my words.

Still, she couldn't just stand on the sidelines and watch her father extort money out of me.

Lorraine took a deep breath before opening a small crack in the door. Just as she stuck her ear to the door, she heard Gerald's voice.

"You must pay me no matter what."

At that moment, Gerald could be seen sitting on the floor. He insisted on staying there until I paid him.
