A few people hung out by the sidewalk, eyeing the passersby. When they saw anyone with a troubled look or sighing, they would approach and ask, "The ward's full, but I can find an empty bed for you. Do you want it?"
Matthew had never been here before, and he couldn't help but exclaim, "Is it always this chaotic out here?"
Pierre shooed away the people selling spots in the ward and turned to Matthew. "They're all just draining the patients dry. One person falls ill, and the whole group of bloodsuckers get their fill."
Matthew couldn't shake the thought of some patients being overwhelmed by the crazy medical bills where they had to borrow money for it. Yet, these people kept taking advantage of them. It made him feel so disheartened.
Pierre continued, "The higher-ups of the hospital are evil. People scalping beds and doctor appointments should be fired.
"Fuck them. They don't fire the ones who deserve it, but they go and fire a doctor like me who genuinely cares about the patients."
Matthew sympathized with Pierre. If it were him in Pierre's shoes, he'd be cussing even harder.
As they made their way to the hospital, Pierre didn't stop grumbling. He cursed at all the higher-ups of the hospital, including their grandparents, their mom, their aunts, and their siblings.
Pierre ranted all the way, attracting a lot of weird looks from patients and their families. He pretended like he didn't see their reactions and just carried on swearing.
As they entered the outpatient building, Pierre started calling out names and cursing them. "Fuck you, Trafford! He's worse than scum. Instead of a doctor, he's a shameless money-grabber, trying to take all the patient's money before discharging them."
On the second floor of the outpatient building was the internal medicine department. In the third office, Trafford finished with a patient and hit the call button.
The display in the lobby flashed a prompt. "Number 25, Paige Ziebell, please head to office 3 for your consultation."
An old woman was holding a queue ticket. When she spotted the message on the screen, she got up and wobbled over to office three.
With a smile, Paige entered and greeted, "Hey doctor. I'm Paige."
Trafford motioned to the chair across from him. "Have a seat. What's bothering you?"
