Soren's eyes widened in shock and disbelief. In his eyes, the Evanses were the top martial arts family in Lambda City, and Dylan was the best cultivator among them all. His biggest wish in life was to call himself Dylan Evans' mentee.
At first, he mistakenly thought that Matthew was there to request Dylan's mentorship, but he looked down on Matthew. He even felt ashamed to call himself Matthew's peer if Dylan accepted Matthew as a mentee.
Hence, he wasn't expecting to see Dylan begging for mercy before Matthew. The stark contrast spooked him.
He blurted out, "Mr. Evans, did you get the wrong man? This guy is here with me to seek your tutelage—"
Halfway through his speech, his cheek was met with a hard slap from Dylan, leaving him utterly dazed and confused. He placed a hand on his burning cheek and gave Dylan a bewildered look.
Meanwhile, Dylan could sense the intimidating air on Matthew. He wreaked his brains, thinking of a way to beg for mercy.
He was furious when Soren, the guy who requested his tutelage, dared to provoke Matthew.
After slapping Soren, he bellowed, "Matthew is a master that even I need to worship. I am not even qualified to request his mentorship. What the fuck are you yapping about?"
Dylan's words dropped a bombshell on Soren. The truth was more shocking than the slap itself. Soren couldn't help but wonder who exactly was Matthew after Dylan claimed he wasn't even worthy of Matthew's mentorship.
Stone-faced, Matthew appeared oblivious to the exchange between Dylan and Soren. Fixing an icy glare on Dylan, he began, "I—"
His speech was interrupted by an old man with a walking stick who had barged into the living room. The man walked with such speed, and with every powerful tap of his walking stick, a wooden floorboard would crack.
Amid the creaking and cracking of floorboards, the old man cursed, "Dylan Evans, you're fucking driving me mad. Didn't I tell you to stay out of the drama and live your life in peace? Do you not take it to heart?"
While speaking, the old man stopped before Dylan and started to beat Dylan up with the walking stick. Dylan's unbearable scream cut through the air when the stick hit his legs.
Suddenly, they saw Dylan curled up into a ball, holding his shin, as he yelped in agony, "My leg hurts! Dad, are you crazy? You broke my leg! That hurts like hell!"
His painful screams echoed in the spacious hall on the first floor. The other family members shot up from the couch and watched with mortified faces.
Soren, who knelt on the floor, watched as Dylan held his broken leg with a contorted expression. Dylan writhed on the floor like a worm cut in half.
He started to bleed from his broken leg, and the blood stained his pants.
Soren was close enough to smell the blood on Dylan. He went limp from fear when he recalled having crossed Matthew, the terrifying young man.
He was so terrified that his entire body went limp. A sudden urge to pee surged through him. He shuddered, clamped his legs together tightly, and gritted his teeth. Every muscle in his body tensed.
