Sonny continued staring in the direction where Emily had disappeared, even though she was long gone. His gaze remained fixed on the empty hallway.
Noticing Sonny's silence, Matthew repeated, "Professor Brewer, let's try out the mechanical exoskeleton."
Without shifting his gaze, Sonny's eyes brightened as he asked, "What's your relationship with Professor Bolton?"
Matthew frowned, wondering what Sonny's angle was. Not only was he ignoring Matthew's questions about the exoskeleton, but he seemed more interested in Emily than the technology.
A thought suddenly struck Matthew—could this scientist have feelings for Emily? He immediately dismissed the idea as absurd.
The man was already in his late 40s and balding—surely he was not thinking of pursuing Emily at his age?
"What's your relationship with Professor Bolton?" Sonny pressed again when Matthew didn't respond.
Matthew suppressed his curiosity and answered carefully, "Professor Bolton and I have an employer-employee relationship. I'm the employer, of course."
That was indeed the truth. Matthew provided the funds and office space, while Emily was only responsible for the research. If her work produced results, they would also belong to him.
Sonny's face lit up with surprise. "Y-You're her boss? Does that mean you can assign her work?"
Matthew laughed inwardly at the suggestion. Emily only approached him when she needed funding, and that was the only time he felt like a boss.
After providing the money, their interaction was minimal, with Emily absorbed in her research while he could barely get a meeting with her.
"Of course, I'm the boss," Matthew replied, deciding not to reveal these details to Sonny. "Assigning work to employees is just part of the job."
Sonny's eyes lit up as he finally turned away from the hallway to face Matthew intently. "Mr. Grant, could I ask you for a favor?"
"Go ahead," Matthew replied with a smile.
Cameron relaxed slightly, relieved that Lorenzo was not asking about Matthew's whereabouts. He felt somewhat proud as he explained the traffic arrangements. "I reached out to two influential people."
He added, "They've mobilized every traffic officer in Lambda City—there are officers at every intersection now. They even called in over a thousand volunteers to help with manning the intersections.
"Traffic is flowing smoothly throughout Lambda City without a single bottleneck."
Lorenzo nodded approvingly. "You're finally showing some sense. Remember who you are—someone with money, resources, and connections.
"One word from you can make all of Lambda City run smoothly. Don't act like such an idiot."
Cameron's eye twitched at Lorenzo's insults. He wanted to argue back, but he dared not voice the thought.
When Cameron remained silent, Lorenzo complained again, "You moron! If you'd done this earlier, you wouldn't have wasted 15 minutes of my time."
