The Ex-Wife's Burning Elegance novel Chapter 1914

Joshua walked up to Stella and said in a low voice, "Star, it's just a personal grudge between Laurel and me."

Stella stared at him unblinking. "What kind of personal grudge makes you want to strangle Ms. Quinn to death?"

Joshua didn't speak.

Stella gazed at him quietly. "Joshua, is there still something you can't tell me?"

Joshua's eyes flickered. "Star..."

There was no need for Joshua to say anything else; Stella already knew the answer from his reaction.

A hint of disappointment surfaced in Stella's eyes.

She turned to look at Laurel with an apologetic expression.

"Ms. Quinn, I am truly sorry."

Previously, Stella had been half-doubtful of Laurel's words.

Now, Stella completely understood that Laurel hadn't lied to her.

Otherwise, Joshua wouldn't have come to her door.

Laurel coughed while shaking her head.

"...I'm fine."

She didn't blame Joshua; she just hoped that Joshua could get his illness treated as soon as possible.

Standing aside, Beckett looked at Laurel's pained expression and tightly clenched his fists.

He seemed to want to say something, but in the end, he gritted his teeth and held it back.

Stella knew there was no point in staying here any longer.

No wonder Laurel unconditionally helped Joshua.

"Laurel, how... how could you be so irrational?"

Laurel said softly, "I didn't want you to suffer a few more days of torture, but the result was that Joshua was tortured for over half a year. It was basically trading Joshua to get you back. Recently, Joshua's memories have been loosening up. I suspect... he must have remembered everything from that time."

After a few seconds of silence, Beckett said, "Laurel, I know you meant well, but Joshua's condition is too unstable. If I hadn't brought Stella here today, you probably would have..."

Laurel, however, said, "No. Even if Stella hadn't come, Joshua wouldn't have killed me, otherwise things between him and Stella would hardly remain peaceful. He would just make me suffer a bit."

Thinking of this, Laurel remembered something and asked Beckett.

"How did you know Joshua would come looking for me?"

Beckett said, "I've been keeping an eye on Joshua's side lately. First Jonathan Williams fell into a coma, then Sellers Burton disappeared, and Aurora Williams' reputation was ruined at her engagement party... A few days ago, something seemed to have happened on Neville Connolly's end as well.
