Abby froze for a second. She murmured to herself, "Haynie? Is Star calling for Haynes?"
She glanced at the time. Haynes was still in Solmaris. After Joshua left, Haynes had tried to see Stella a few times, but she had been too busy dealing with Sellers and had turned him down.
It felt wrong to disturb someone at this hour, but Abby remembered how Haynes used to drop everything in the middle of the night for Rachel. She felt no guilt.
She immediately took out her phone to call him. Just as she dialed, Neville suddenly asked, "Are you sure she said 'Haynie,' and not 'Joshua?'"
Abby paused.
Neville continued, "I've never heard Star call Haynes 'Haynie.' Of course, I don't know what she called him when they were on good terms."
Abby's mood sank like a stone. "Back when Star and Haynes were still close," she said quietly, "she called him 'Haynes.'"
If it wasn't Haynes she was calling for, then… it must have been Joshua.
Haynie, Joshua… It was an easy mistake to make.
Neville looked at Stella with a complicated expression.
Just then, Haynes answered the phone, his voice thick with sleep. "Abby? Why are you calling at this hour? Did something happen to Star?"
