But just as he was about to, the ringing stopped. A second later, a text message popped up on the screen.
*Star, I've reviewed the plan to rob Leonard. Are you sure about sending Joshua to rescue Abby? The Lerman estate is dangerous. I'm worried he can't handle it.*
Foreman's gaze froze. Rob Leonard? Why would Star want to rob Leonard?
His fingers twitched, instinctively wanting to scroll up and read the previous messages. But he paused, a sense of propriety holding him back. It was rude to go through someone's phone without permission.
But still… why would she tell Antoney and not him? He could help her.
Or maybe… maybe she just hadn't had the chance to tell him yet. Perhaps she would tell him over dinner tonight.
He started to put the phone down, then stopped again. What if she didn't tell him?
His eyes darkened. That would mean that, in her mind, he ranked below both Antoney and Joshua. He could accept being second to Antoney; they had grown up together, and he was like a brother to her.
But Joshua? On what grounds?
A muscle in Foreman's jaw twitched. He stared down at the phone, his expression turning grim. After a few seconds, he seemed to make a decision. Glancing toward the door to ensure no one was coming, he took out his own phone and transferred an unknown compressed file to Stella's.
"Alright, Foreman," she said, putting the phone away. "Let's go."
As they left the building, Foreman was unsurprised to see the man he now despised waiting for them. Joshua seemed to have been expecting him and greeted him with a smile.
"Mr. Richards, long time no see."
"Indeed," Foreman replied with a tight, forced smile.
Joshua drove them to the restaurant. Although he was technically Stella's bodyguard, no one in the Williams family treated him as such. After all, he took orders from no one but Stella. So, while Stella was treating Foreman to dinner, Joshua joined them at the table, even taking the seat right next to her.
