The Divorcee Who Shines novel Chapter 119

Chapter 119 Responsibility

Silence spread through the empty hospital room as they breathed heavily together.

"Brendon, there's nothing left for us to say. You should go! Shannon is waiting for you!" Ranita avoided eye contact and swallowed all her bitterness down into her stomach.

Ranita's eye sockets turned red, and her already delicate face appeared even paler at this moment, devoid of any color, like a fragile porcelain doll that would crumble at the slightest touch. When viewed from the side, she seemed even more slender.

Brendon controlled his emotions and approached Ranita instead. He placed a hand on her shoulder while speaking softly, "I'm sorry... for what I said earlier."

He had just been too angry before...

"Ranita... don't be mad." The man lowered his head slightly while speaking coolly but gently this time around; he hugged her tightly then rested his head on top of hers while breathing out hot air onto it continuously...

Ranita's heart couldn't help but race along with it...

Ranita gritted her teeth, attempting to push him away, but he held her tighter. His fingers grazed the wound on her forehead. "Does it still hurt?" he asked.

"No," Ranita replied, her eyes lowered, avoiding Brendon's gaze.

"The nurse said they stitched up one stitch…how can it not hurt?" Brendon frowned worriedly then added teasingly, "Girls are supposed to be delicate creatures…like Shannon who cries over every little bump or bruise."

Ranitas' heart turned cold as ice upon hearing those words…

"If Miss Murphy is your concern then why don't you go take care of her instead?" She didn't want Brendon going anywhere near Shannon anymore…but knowing where his true feelings lay made things difficult for everyone involved…

"Shannon's knee isn't serious…I've already sent my driver back home with instructions for rest…" After pausing briefly, he continued, "…tonight…I'll stay here by your side…"

"No need! I'll ask Dylan for help!" Ranita refused him.

Brendon suddenly pinched her slender waist and insisted inexplicably, "Before the legal relationship is terminated, I am still your husband. It is also my duty to accompany you during your hospitalization."

"I'm going to take a shower, do whatever you want," Ranita said awkwardly as she retreated to the bathroom. Just as she was about to take off her pants, the door suddenly opened a little, startling Ranita. She stumbled and fell onto the sink in a panic, tripping over her own pants.

"Ranita!" The shadow enveloped her, and Ranita was pulled into Brendon's arms.

The embrace was very warm, like the winter sunshine.

She can discern it carefully, the cold fragrance of cedar was mixed with a sweet scent that belonged only to Shannon... Ranita's heart was numb and her hands and feet were half frozen.

Constantly, it reminded her that Brendon was no longer hers.

"You let go." Ranita pushed Brendon away, far from the sweet scent. She breathed a little easier and said, "You came in, why didn't you knock?"

"I called out to you but you didn't respond, I thought something had happened to you..." Brendon held onto her waist, his gaze sweeping over her delicate collarbone, his voice low and hoarse.
