The Divorced Military Queen Awakens (by Sadie Baxter) novel Chapter 546

Chapter 546: Second Chance

A sharp cough seized Laura suddenly, the half-chewed bite lodged stubbornly in her throat. She gasped, struggling to clear the blockage, her chest heaving with the effort.

Weston sprang up immediately, the legs of his chair scraping loudly against the polished wooden floor. Within seconds, he was leaning over the table, carefully sliding a tall glass of milk toward her, his hand trembling ever so slightly as he placed it just within her reach.

Gratefully, Laura grasped the glass with both hands, taking several quick sips before she could finally swallow the stubborn piece of pancake that had nearly choked her. Her breath steadied, but the tension remained thick in the air.

“Are you okay?” Weston’s voice was laced with concern, each word weighted with genuine worry. “Does anything hurt? Should I call someone for you?”

Laura looked up, meeting the earnest expression etched deeply on his face. “I’m fine,” she said firmly, her voice steady despite the lingering discomfort. “But… what did you just say? Something about giving us another chance?”

He hesitated, searching her eyes cautiously. “You don’t remember everything I told you last night?” he asked carefully.

Laura frowned, her brows knitting together. “What exactly do you expect me to recall? You said a lot,” she replied, her tone a mixture of skepticism and curiosity.

“Then let’s start fresh,” Weston said, holding her gaze with unwavering intensity. “No more casual flings, no games. We date seriously—from the very beginning, marriage is the goal. You told me you’re done with games. So am I. Just give me this one chance, Laura. I promise I’ll cherish you.”

For a moment, Laura sat frozen, the sunlight pouring through the window casting a surreal glow over his words, making them sound almost unreal.

Did I just hear that right? Date me—with marriage in sight?

“Weston, are you still drunk?” she finally asked after a long pause, disbelief coloring her voice.

“No, Laura. I told you last night, my head was clear then, and it’s even clearer now,” he said, his voice steady and deliberate.

Laura remained still, a faint haze clouding her thoughts as she tried to process the weight of his confession.

Weston’s eyes darkened with guilt, a sorrowful sheen reflecting the overhead lights. “I know I hurt you deeply back then,” he admitted, each word heavy with regret. “When you loved me, I treated that love like spare change—something easy to take, easier to throw away. But the moment your heart turned cold, mine ignited, Laura. Just one chance—that’s all I ask. This time, I’ll hold you like the priceless treasure you are. You said you wanted real love, marriage, children, a home built on mutual devotion. I can give you all of that.”

His voice was low and tender, echoing the very promises she had once longed to hear.

If only he had spoken like this before, she might have been overwhelmed with joy, spending nights dreaming of their future home, the laughter of children filling the yard.
