As Robin stepped out of the car, his eyes swept across the plaza. In a quiet corner, Amber, Jonah, Alison, and the others huddled together in exhaustion.
Their clothes were stained, their faces bruised, and remnants of smashed eggs, boot prints, and stick blows still clung to their hair and skin.
Under the fading glow of the setting sun, Robin clearly saw the flicker of fear, shock, and indignation in their eyes.
"What happened to you all?" he asked, striding forward toward Amber, who was still trembling.
"Mr. Ramsey ... " Amber burst into tears, leaning helplessly against Robin's shoulder.
"The Dunn Group has completely fallen apart. I ... I've let you and Ms. Dunn down. I'm sorry.
"Everything was fine this morning. But then, out of nowhere, an online smear campaign exploded against us.
"They accused us of feeding off the people, of exploiting our workers, and of stealing away their happiness.
"They claimed everyone would be better off if the Dunn Group didn't exist.
"In short, every finger pointed at us—demanding higher wages, more vacation time, shorter work weeks, and full disclosure of all company financials.
"They said if we didn't comply, they'd tear the Dunn Group headquarters to the ground.
"Some of the senior staff tried to calm the situation, but they were doused in filth and branded as lapdogs.
"We thought things would quiet down once the online mob had their say—but we were wrong.
"Around noon, a group of unidentified people stormed the headquarters. They smashed everything and looted what they could.
"They incited our employees to go on strike, demanding more benefits.
"I tried to reason with them, asked if they'd send a representative to negotiate—but they refused. They demanded we hand over the entire Dunn Group's shares immediately.
"I didn't even get a chance to call the police before they all rushed me at once. If Mr. Ferguson hadn't shown up when he did, I don't know what would've happened.
"In the chaos, they stole all our phones. We couldn't even reach you. Mr. Ramsey, this is all my fault. I failed to protect the company. I'm so sorry!"
Amber bowed deeply. Her tears streamed down endlessly, falling to the ground with heartbreaking weight.
Jonah stood beside her, equally ashamed, choking on words he couldn't quite speak.
Robin gave a faint, unbothered smile. "If the Dunn Group is gone, then so be it. It's not the end of the world. Shirley had already set aside some funds for all of you. Take them and leave Harmonfield. Start over somewhere else—somewhere no one knows you. If anyone should apologize, it's me. I'm the one who dragged you into this mess."
Jonah shook his head bitterly. "Mr. Ramsey, they did all this because they knew you were leaving. Couldn't you stay just a little longer?"
"I can't," Robin said firmly. "What's happening here can't be fixed. I won't gamble Shirley's future happiness on a hopeless fight. It's not worth it. I have to go. It's the only way to protect everyone.
"I'd rather die than grovel before people like them. Go. There's no need to keep fighting over the remains of the Dunn Group. We'll meet again—someday."
"Mr. Ramsey!" Amber stepped in front of him, eyes desperate.
"I-I don't have a home anymore. Other than you and Ms. Dunn, I have no family left. Please ... let me go with you. I'll stay by your side, always."
Robin frowned slightly. "Where I'm going is remote. Quiet. Completely cut off from the world. You might not adjust well."
Amber nodded with conviction. "I'll be fine! Mr. Ramsey, I can handle any amount of loneliness, as long as I'm with you both."
Robin shrugged helplessly. "Alright then. But if you ever regret it, I'll fly you back."
"Mr. Ramsey, I want to come too!" Jonah stepped forward, eyes pleading.
"I'm done with the lies, the backstabbing. I just want to be around people like you—honest, straightforward."
"I'm coming too," Alison added, linking arms with Jonah and sneaking a glance at Robin.
I once loved you with all my heart. Why did you never give yours in return?
I met you in dreams again and again. But woke up alone, wondering where you've gone...
No matter how time may pass us by, will you think of me once I'm gone?
This feeling will never return again. Don't let love turn into nothing.
