Finally, Aurelia turned to Leopold, offering him the treat. “Why don’t you try some, Mr. Leopold? They’re quite delicious.” 

A slight grimace tugged at Leopold’s mouth. She called Arnold and Elvis in an affectionate tone, yet reverted to the formal naming when it came to him. 

Didn’t the order of her offerings represent their positions in her heart? He was the last one, the least important one, and even Elvis was ranked before him. 

“No, thank you.” 

Bitterness filled him. He didn’t feel like eating anything anymore. 

In truth, Aurelia did it on purpose, venting her resentment in her own way. 

Leopold was the only one who truly hurt her, the man who ripped her heart into pieces and trampled upon her feelings. 

A saying goes, “Men love novelty and loathe the familiar. Leopold was a prime example of this now. 

He had his wish, drove her away, married his so–called ‘dream woman,’ he found himself missing her – his ex–wife again. 

Did he think she had no dignity, that he could summon and dismiss her at will, play her like a fiddle? 

She set down her plate, took a sip of her lemon tea, stretched her stiff lips into a thin smile, and asked, “What brings you here today, Mr. Leopold? Shouldn’t you be visiting the Alcott family?” 

Leopold didn’t answer, thinking, “how could I possibly go to the Alcotts?” 

Avery shrugged and replied, “Of course my former brother–in–law should visit us. This is his current mother–in–law’s home. He ought to go and pay a courtesy call.” 

Aurelia felt as if she had swallowed a lemon. The sharp bitterness and sour spread from her tongue to her core. 

“I won’t keep you for dinner then, Mr. Leopold. You’d better go. Don’t keep them waiting. Kane can stay with me, and I’ll send him home tomorrow.” 

As she was speaking, Kane came running down the stairs, “Mom, Dad’s not going to the

Alcotts today. We’re here to visit grandma and grandpa.” 

He didn’t want his mom to see his dad as a love rat. His dad wasn’t that bad, and he must have his reasons. 

Aurelia gently patted his head, a dull ache in her heart. She was sure Leopold wouldn’t stay. He’d on to the Alcotts. 

As expected, Leopold stood up. “Since you have guests, I’ll take my leave. No need to send Kane. I’ll pick him up tomorrow morning.” He went to the kitchen, greeted Jolin, and left. 

Disappointed, Kane trudged upstairs. He didn’t understand why his dad was the first to leave. Arnold hadn’t left yet. Did his dad really not intend to reconcile with his mom? 

Of course, Arnold wouldn’t leave. Leopold was out of the game and wouldn’t have another chance. But Arnold did. He would never hand Aurelia to someone else without a fight. 

Aurelia took a sip of her tea. She began to believe there was no such thing as true love in this world. People’s emotions were fragile, riddled with impurities. Unswerving and unwavering love existed only in novels and TV dramas. 

Arnold loved her, but in the end, he chose to save Magnolia, forsaking her. 

As for Leopold, he saw her as a trophy. He didn’t love her. His feelings were merely possessive. 

As for Elvis, he probably admired her more for her design talents. 

After Jolin had prepared a few dishes, she came out of the kitchen. They were out of flour and needed Aurelia to get some from the convenience store. 

Aurelia asked her brother to entertain the guests, slipped on her shoes, and headed out. 

Upon her return, her eyes caught sight of a Rolls Royce parked nearby. 

Wait, wasn’t that Leopold’s car? His car was custom–made, so she could recognize it instantly. 

Had he not left yet? Or did he leave without his car? 

Curious, she walked over. Just as she was about to peek inside, the car door was suddenly pushed open. A large hand reached out, pulling her into the car.
