Anastasia already had her next move mapped out, but it was a show she couldn’t pull off alone—she needed Herman in on it if she wanted it to work.
Right now, all she’d done was build the stage.
Herman leaned in, a spark of curiosity lighting his eyes. “So, what do you need your husband to do?”
Anastasia grinned, her tone playfully secretive. “I heard from Christen that someone on your team is a makeup wizard—even better than Christen herself. That’s exactly who I need.”
Herman’s eyes flashed with understanding. He was quick on the uptake—after all these years together, they could practically read each other’s minds.
He smirked. “You want me to find someone who can pass as your dad and test Sandy, right?”
“Exactly,” Anastasia said. “The police at Nabb Mount said my dad’s face was totally destroyed when he fell, so when Sandy went to identify the body, there’s no way she dared to look closely. If you find someone to dress up as my dad and confront Sandy, it’ll scare her—and maybe she’ll slip up and say something.”
“No problem,” Herman replied easily. “I’ll get it done tonight. Babe, you want to watch the show live?”
“You bet I do,” Anastasia shot back. “I want to see how Sandy tries to talk her way out of this. I want to see just how dark her heart really is.”
“Alright, let me make a call.”
…
Night fell.
At Velvet Lounge, the music shook the walls, the DJ’s beats thumping through the crowd.
Gorgeous women, sharp-dressed guys, a few muscleheads—the dance floor was a blur of bodies moving under the lights.
Right in the middle of it all, with a bubblegum-pink wig, tiny shorts, and a skin-tight crop top, was Sandy.
Tonight, Sandy was nothing like her usual sweet, quiet self. It was like she had two sides—one cold and scheming, the other wild and electric.
She was the center of attention, every eye on her, her energy lighting up the whole place. Guys went crazy over her confidence and sex appeal.
They waited patiently for about half an hour, until Sandy slipped upstairs with another handsome stranger.
It was obvious what they were headed up there for.
Sandy had only had a few drinks—she always kept her wits about her, never getting too wasted. But she was a pro at acting drunk—she could fake being tipsy better than most people could actually get.
Upstairs, her date wasted no time, hands wandering, eager for more.
Sandy didn’t hold back, either. She never pretended about what she wanted—if she wanted a man, she went for it.
Just as they reached the door to a private room, a familiar voice cut through the noise behind her. “Sandy! What are you doing here? And dressed like that? Who is this guy? Look at yourself—what would people think?”
Sandy spun around, her face draining of color as she stared at the man in front of her.
She faltered, panic flickering in her eyes. “D-dad…”
