The Bond Between Us ( Anastasia and Herman) novel Chapter 1110

Jason called out twice, his voice bouncing off the hospital walls. When there was no answer—no sound, no movement—dread crawled up his spine.

“Hey… Monica?”

His voice wavered. He didn’t want to believe Monica was the one who’d come in. He didn’t even want to hope.

But then he heard her crying.

Monica had been standing by the door for ages, begging Dr. Choi until he finally caved and let her see Jason—just for a moment, he’d said. She’d held onto hope. How could someone like Jason lose his sight? It seemed impossible.

Monica’s sobs filled the room as she hurried over, tears streaking down her face. “Jason, it’s me. I’m sorry. I’m so, so sorry.”

She wanted to dive into his arms the way she always used to, to be silly and sweet. But seeing him all battered and bruised, she forced herself to hold back.

She didn’t even know what she was apologizing for—maybe for being so stubborn before, or for showing up too late. She had a million things to say, but all that came out was “I’m sorry.”

Jason flinched, every muscle tight, but his voice was ice. “Why are you here? Go home.”

“I’m not leaving,” Monica cried. “Jason, I’m sorry. No more tantrums, I promise. I’m your girlfriend—I want to stay with you.”

“We broke up a long time ago…”

“Don’t even try that, Jason. Hank already told me everything. You love me. And that bracelet you gave me? I love it. I wear it every day. Look—” She stopped herself, realizing Jason couldn’t see, and her voice faltered. “Sorry, Jason…”

“Monica, me getting hurt has nothing to do with you. Why do you keep apologizing?” Jason’s tone was flat. “The bracelet was a New Year’s gift for my mom. Hank’s just stirring things up again. Please give it back. Sorry for the misunderstanding.”

“I’m not giving it back.” Monica shook her head, stubborn as ever. “Jason, you gave it to me. I know what you’re doing. You think you’ll hold me back now that you’re hurt, that you’ll be a burden. You’ve watched too many soaps. Don’t give me that ‘I’m doing this for your own good’ routine. I’m not interested in tragic love stories.”

Monica was always this direct. It left Jason speechless—because, honestly, she’d nailed exactly what he was thinking.
