Chapter 129
Alejandro’s hand was firm but not rough as he guided Nivera into the changing room, his gaze still fixed on her like a predator making sure its prey didn’t escape.
He closed the door with deliberate slowness, the latch clicking into place, but didn’t speak right away.
Nivera could feel the weight of his silence pressing into the small room. She kept her eyes on her reflection in the mirror, busying herself with unfastening a stubborn piece of jewellery.
He finally exhaled through his nose, turning toward her. “Did he try anything?”
She shook her head. “No.”
it wasn’t a lie exactly–but it wasn’t the whole truth either. Damon hadn’t touched her, but his presence alone felt like an intrusion, like he’d been reaching into her world without permission.
Alejandro’s jaw flexed, the muscle tightening and releasing as he studied her face for any hint she was downplaying something.
His eyes were a shade darker than usual, not from lack of sleep, but from the barely contained fury simmering behind them.
He didn’t think about how he would’ve been here sooner if he’d read her text in time.
When she’d left the mansion that morning, he had gone straight to the shower, letting the hot water pound over his shoulders in a futile
attempt to shake off the strange calm he’d woken up in.
The image of her curled beside him on the bed had lingered longer than it should have.
Afterward, he dressed quickly, already late for a board meeting that had been marked “critical” on his calendar for weeks. It was important enough that he didn’t even glance at his phone as he left for the office.
Two hours later, when the meeting finally adjourned, he pulled his phone from his pocket to text her and ask how the shoot was going. That’s when he saw her message.
The name in the text–Damon–made him see only red. It wasn’t possible. Or maybe it was.
Men like Damon didn’t just vanish; they resurfaced, always at the worst moments, like rot creeping back through the walls.
The rest of his day evaporated in an instant. He canceled every meeting, told his assistant not to call unless the building was on fire, and
drove straight to the shoot location.
He’d arrived just in time to see Damon moving toward Nivera.
Alejandro hadn’t even thought–he simply stepped between them, every cell in his body prepared to end the conversation before it began.
Now, standing in the changing room, Alejandro’s hands were shoved into his pockets, but his posture was taut, ready.
“You should’ve called me.”
“I texted you,” Nivera said, a little sharper than she intended. She didn’t mean it to. It was just that she was still on the defensive from being
so close to Damon.
“And if I’d been looking at my phone, maybe I’d have been here sooner.” His tone held no apology–only frustration. “Instead, I had to finish a meeting before I even saw your message.”

Chapter 129
“I handled it.” A look from Alejandro made her roll her eyes. “Almost handled it.”
“Damon shouldn’t have been anywhere near you. And now I have to figure out why the hell he was there in the first place.”
“I don’t think figuring it out is that hard,” she remarked as Alejandro glared at her. “What? We both know what he wants, but do you think him being here isn’t a coincidence?”
“He’s not here by coincidence,” Alejandro responded, his voice low, almost conversational–but there was nothing casual about the steel in it.
Nivera fastened her gaze on the floor. “He’s a sponsor. That’s what they said.”
“That’s what they want you to think,” Alejandro replied. He stepped closer, his shadow stretching over her in the mirror. “Men like Damon don’t write cheques out of generosity. If he showed up here as a ‘sponsor‘, it’s because he wanted to. Because he knew you’d be here.”
She turned back toward the dresser, reaching for her zipper. “It doesn’t matter. I can handle it.”
“Don’t tell me it doesn’t matter, Nivera. You think because he didn’t put his hands on you this time that it’s fine? Damon is the kind of man who plans three steps ahead. He wants you to think you’re safe so you drop your guard.”
Seeing that she was still struggling with it, Alejandro walked up and helped her with the zipper. She looked at his reflection in the mirror and saw how his jaw ticked.
At least, this time, his anger wasn’t directed at her. Rather, it was more at himself for not checking his phone.
A part of her, however, felt bad, as that meant there wouldn’t be that sweet punishment he gave out the last time.
The dress immediately pooled at her feet, leaving her in her lingerie, and she moved to cover herself.
She wondered what the point of doing so was, as he had seen her naked.
Leaning forward, he kissed her shoulder, which made her shudder, the excitement immediately rushing to her core.
“I don’t like being blindsided, Nivera,” he said quietly, but the steel in his voice was unmistakable. “If Damon’s involved, I want to know before he even breathes in your direction.”
For a moment, neither of them spoke. The silence hummed with something dangerous.
Then, from outside the door, came the sound of voices—one of them unmistakably Damon’s.
Alejandro then took a step back. “Stay here,” he ordered.
“Now, there’s no need to confront him,” Nivera said.
With the way the two men had spoken to each other, she was sure that if Alejandro went to confront him one more time, they would
definitely get physical.
And she couldn’t have that happening, as that would be bad, both for herself and Alejandro.
“If you think I’m going to get physical with him, I’m not. As angry as l’am, I’m not going to do something that will jeopardize your shoot,” he
stated.
He wasn’t a fool to go around attacking Damon in public. If he didn’t care about his reputation, he wasn’t about to make Nivera look bad.
