The Billionaire's Dangerous Obsession (Nivera) novel Chapter 112

Chapter 112

Chapter 112

The dining room was glowing with warm light, glistening chandeliers overhead casting a soft hue over the long oak table.

Everything seemed to be going well, but Alejandro’s sharp gaze remained unyielding.

He barely touched the food on his plate, not because it was subparit was exquisite, of coursebut because he had grown increasingly suspicious.

Plús, he wasn’t going to eat in his enemy’s territory.

Everything was too perfect.

Matthew was too composed. Vivian, too giddy. Nothing he had done so far had raised any alarms, but that only made Alejandro more suspicious.

Alejandro wasn’t foolish enough to believe this dinner was innocent. Not when Nivera’s presence had been such an obvious sore spot for some of them. Not when Silas had barely taken his eyes off her all night.

And NiveraNivera looked beautiful and poised, smiling softly whenever anyone addressed her; she would appear content, even happy.

But Alejandro had seen the way her fingers curled under the table, how her smile faltered for a fraction of a second every time Vivian spoke. She was putting up a showone meant to please her family. But it didn’t fool him….

It was entertaining and yet frustrating to him.

A large part of why he had made her attend the dinner was because she shouldn’t have to pretend to be happy around these people.

There was no reason for her to have run away from her father and sister. She had put her life in danger by doing so, as anything could have happened.

She knew deep down he would have handled them if they had tried to sabotage her career; she just didn’t want to face them because, in a large way, she was scared of them.

And it was something she needed to overcome, and he was making it his mission to ensure she did so, as this was personal for him.

His left eye twitched as he remembered the demon he had been scared of and how it had affected him so much until one day, he stood up to him, and the next was liberation.

Matthew lifted his wine glass and tapped it gently. Now,he said, voice carrying smoothly through the room, since we are all gathered here after such a long time, I thought it only appropriate we share what we’ve accomplished so far this year, as we always do.

Beside him, Nivera sighed. Alejandro turned just in time to see her drop her gaze to her plate.

Vivian beamed, ready. Of course.

I suppose I’ll go first,” she said brightly. Our stocks are the highest they’ve ever been. The Elton firm is in high demand internationally. I just closed a partnership with a Parisian label that’ll triple our revenue by the fourth quarter.

She flicked her hair over her shoulder and gave a smug little smile. It’s been a fulfilling few months. We’re also expanding into other regions. Slowly…. taking over the industry.

Matthew nodded as he smiled at her proudly.

Alejandro arched a brow, amused. Of course, she needed validation for breathing.

Liam?Matthew asked.

Her brother, ever the quiet one, gave a short shrug. You know what we do. The numbers speak for themselves.

That was it.

It wasn’t surprising to Nivera. Liam had always been the least vocal, the quiet one among the Elfon siblings

Just like when they were younger, he never bragged about his accomplishments.

Matthew looked slightly irked but didn’t push further. Liam wasn’t one for words.

Alejandro’s eyes slid to Nivera, waiting for what would come next. He knew it wouldn’t be pretty.

Well,Vivian drawled, pretending surprise as her gaze shifted down the table. What about you, Nivera? t hear you’ve beendoing something now?

The silence that followed was stifling.

Nivera’s back straightened, her face composed. Yes,she said coolly. I’ve been working independently.

Ah,Vivian hummed. Independent ventures. That’s lovely. I supposehaving a job now must be quite the adjustment for you, giveneverything

It was said with a smile. Sweet and innocent.

Nivera didn’t respond. She didn’t have to.

Alejandro could already feel the weight of her silence and could practically see the invisible blade Vivian was twisting.

Come on, say something! He urged Nivera in his head.

Vivian wasn’t done. ThoughI did hear some whispers, she continued, sipping her wine with innocence.

That you were seen at a certain building yesterday afternoon. One that just so happens to belong to someone else entirely. She leaned forward slightly, her tone curious. Surely there’s no scandal involved, is there?

Matthew watched Nivera now, his interest piqued. Silas, too.

I went there for personal reasons,Nivera said calmly, setting her fork down. Not that it’s any of your business.

Personal?Vivian tilted her head. You know, Nivera, it’s hard not to wonder what those reasons might be. Especially with yourdeclining popularity. Sometimes women get desperate.”

Alejandro’s brows rose.

Oh?

Aria, seated on the other side of the table, dropped her fork. Vivian, she said sharply. That’s out of line.

Is it?Vivian laughed. I’m just saying what everyone’s thinking.”

I don’t think that,Liam snapped. And you don’t speak for everyone.”

Dinner is over,Nivera said abruptly, rising from her seat. Her hands trembled slightly

was she tried to keep her voice from cracking. I’m done with this.

Sit down, sister,Vivian said, her voice mocking. We’re just getting to the good part. Isn’t it sad to see that Alejandro isn’t enough for–

No,” Alejandro cut in, his voice low and dangerous. She said she’s done. And maybe you should think twice before throwing stones from your glass house.

Vivian blinked, confused.

Alejandro’s gaze sharpened. Bit hypocritical of you to accuse her of cheating when your husband hasn’t kept his eyes off my woman all night.

Everyone immediately turned their attention to Silas.

That’s a lielhe snapped.

Alejandro laughed, low and dangerous. You really should keep your eyes in your head. Makes it loss tempting to knock them out?

Silas stood so quickly, his chair scraped harshly against the floor as he moved towards Alejandre. What the hell are your insinyatung?

Alejandro smiled coldly. I’m not insinuating. I’m stating facts. You’ve been undressing her with your eyes all night, and frankly, it’s patheti

She’s brainwashing you, and you’re falling for it. You think she’s with you for love? She’s a parasite, one who’s only with you for your name and your bank account. Nathaniel was right about her being a slu-

He didn’t get to finish his words as Alejandro’s fist connected with his jaw, which sent him staggering

Ahh!Vivian shrieked in horror.

You bastard-

Silas snarled, his hand rising as he pulled back for a punch.

But before he could swing, a hand grabbed his wrist midair.

When he turned to see who it was, he saw Liam, who didn’t hesitate.

One hard punch landed straight into Silas’s jaw, sending him reeling backward.

That’s for calling her a slut,” Liam muttered, his tone still calm but his eyes cold.

Vivian let out a shriek of horror. Liam!

He turned on her. You’re lucky I don’t hit women, Viv. Or I’d beat the living daylights out of you for that foul mouth of yours.

A low chuckle rolled from the far end of the table, and all heads turned toward it.

It was from their mother, Aria. For the first time all night, she looked vaguely pleased.

You raise that hand, and you’ll lose it,” Alejandro said darkly when Silas wanted to retaliate once again.

Vivian turned to her father now, desperate. Are you seriously going to let them say this?! Alejandro and Liam just punched my husband!

Matthew remained silent, face unreadable.

Alejandro chuckled before Nivera’s father could speak.

Defend her, Matthew, and you’ll get punched next. Or have you forgotten how painful it was last time I hit you?

Matthew’s jaw twitched, but he said nothing.

It was Nivera’s turn to laugh now, and it was cold and triumphant.

Alejandro turned to her, his voice low but audible. We’re leaving.

Without sparing anyone another glance, he reached out, placed a firm hand on Nivera’s back, and guided her from the table.

But not before Nivera turned and caught Vivian’s eye, and she smirked, which made Vivian’s face flush red with fury.

And just like that, the dinner was over.
