The Billion Dollar Contract novel Chapter 12

"What are you doing here?!" Gabriel whispered yelled once they were in his office. Before Nicole could reply, he cut her off

"How did you get here in the first place?"

"Isn't it obvious that your chauffeur brought me here? And oh, your chauffeur is quite handsome. You really have good taste when employing" Nicole's response infuriated Gabriel even more. She was complimenting his employee while he was being serious

"Why are you here?" He said through gritted teeth

"I only came to thank you for the credit card and also to show you this new dress I got. I wanted to know if you liked it" she said with happiness in her voice ignoring Gabriel's anger

"And you thought it was best to come to my office?" He asked trying really hard to control his anger

"I was really excited, okay? I didn't know you'd react this way" Nicole replied with a pout. Just then they heard a knock on the door, Gabriel asked whoever it was to come in

"Sir, I came to inform you that the meeting will be starting in ten minutes" his secretary informed

"Thanks, you may go now" he replied. As soon as the door was shut, he turned to Nicole

"We'll talk about this when I get home" he sternly said

"But you still haven't complimented my dress" she said still pouting. Gabriel gave her a warning look

"Okay, I'll leave" she said in annoyance before walking out of the office

Nicole felt really disappointed with herself, what was she thinking? That he'd welcome her with open arms and tell her how beautiful she was? She was really stupid to have thought that way. She went back home sad.

Gabriel returned home that night and went straight into Nicole's bedroom, he was still angry at what she did earlier that day

"What was the meaning of the stunt you pulled in my company today?!" He angrily asked, this time not holding himself back from yelling. Nicole was surprised to see Gabriel in her room and still in his angry state

"Could you please knock the next time you want to come in here?" she calmly said

"Stop changing the subject Nicole!" He yelled

"I'm not changing anything, okay! I already told you why I came to your office!" She replied also raising her voice. Nicole took a deep breath and continued

"Look, I don't want to argue with you, it's too early for that. I have no idea why you're so upset about the whole thing. You asked me to act as your fiancee and I don't think you were implying that I only act as your fiancee at home"

Nicole was right, sooner or later he was going to come out public with her. He was supposed to thank her and not be mad at her. She slowly walked towards Gabriel, wrapping her arms around his neck

"Where is your breakfast?" He asked with a raised eyebrow. Nicole stared at him with puppy eyes hoping he'd understand that she needed some sweetness in her life and eventually drop the subject but he still stood waiting for her reply

"I'm sorry?" She said after swallowing the last piece of donut in her hand

"You're going to work out every pound you gain under my watch" he said trying to act angry when on the contrary he wasn't, not one bit

"I will. I promise but not in your presence" she replied taking another donut that was covered in chocolate

"I'm leaving" he said

Nicole immediately dropped the donut in her hand and stood up, walking to Gabriel. She was about doing something daring like giving him a goodbye kiss since the maids who had served them breakfast were still present in the dining room when her phone rang making her mentally groan in annoyance. She had wanted to see how Gabriel would react this time but better luck next time, she thought. Nicole looked at the caller ID and saw that it was Rick

"It's a friend" she said to Gabriel with a look of guilt.

Seeing Rick's name just made her realize that she hadn't told her friends about her whereabouts and they would probably be really worried not knowing where she was. Gabriel looked around the dining room hoping that his maids weren't watching them

"Don't say a word about this to anyone" he whispered placing a kiss on Nicole's forehead. She nodded in reply and waved him goodbye before running up to her room to pick the call.
