Chapter 66
“Yes, I am,” I say, finally feeling able to at least joke about it a little.
“Let’s do it.”
I got to level eight on Friday before I got sliced by a knife and lost my balance. Honestly, I’m surprised I got that far. I was still feeling lost on Friday, but now, I feel great, ready to take on the day, Alpha Ryan, and the whole damn Academy.
I make it through the first seven levels easily. This time, I’m more careful when I get to level eight, checking to see where the knives will come from. I can hear Alpha Ryan beside me and I know I‘ m not very far ahead of him. I need to make my move so I can defeat an Alpha and get my points.
I rush across, ducking, leaping, and diving to get out of the way of the shooting knives. The moment I’m across, I rush to level nine, and I realize this is the last level, the wall. I’m almost there.
I hear Alpha Ryan take off running and I do as well, knowing I’ll have to get to the top before him if I’m going to defeat him.
I push hard, letting my momentum drive me up the wall. The moment I feel gravity starting to take hold, I leap, grabbing the top of the wall and pulling myself up. I glance beside me and see Alpha Ryan doing the same thing and I let my competitive nature drive my adrenaline, pulling me up faster. I kick a leg over the top and pull myself over the edge a moment before Alpha Ryan does.
“YES!” I yell, crouched on the ground, panting with exertion.
“Well done young Alpha. Ring the bell,” Ryan says.
I get up, grabbing the clapper and ringing the bell as I lift my head to the sky and howl my
excitement.
Four howls answer instantly, my friends, followed by the others and the instructors.
When I climb down the stairs to the ground, Tiana is first into my arms, slamming her body against mine and hugging me tightly.
“CONGRATULATIONS!!
”
I hug her tightly, lifting her off her feet as our friends surround me, congratulating me.

Cole is up next. He requests Alpha Jackson and as expected, he also defeats The Beast and gets points for defeating an Alpha.
When it’s Tiana’s turn, I’m surprised that she stays in human form.
She calls Dane to compete against and when Ryan asks her if she’s going to switch to her wolf form, she turns and looks at me.
“Nope. A wise Alpha told me that I should do this for myself. For me, I want to defeat every one of you on this Beast. So be warned, Alphas, I’m coming for you. There are five instructors, and I have five days to knock you down like pins,” she says, grinning at the instructors and making them all laugh.
I’m so proud of her. She could have gone for the points for first to finish in her wolf form and she probably would have gotten them being that she’s had a head start on the rest of us. But she’s doing what SHE wants now, not what is going to earn her the most points.
“You know you only get points for defeating one of us, right, Sebastiana?” Dane asks her.
“There are points and there is pride, Alpha Dane. I’m in it for the bragging rights.”
He laughs. “You really are just like your mother. She did exactly the same thing.”
