“I did do that,” she snaps.

“Not until your mother intervened and Alpha Jackson denied your withdrawal request. Your family is pushing you to succeed because they know you’ll regret it if you don’t take this opportunity, but that still doesn’t mean that it’s what YOU want, T. What do YOU want? If you remove the legacy of your family, if you remove the pressure you’ve put on yourself all these years, if you take all of that away, what does Sebastiana Webb want in life?”

I watch her jaw begin to tick and her throat bob as she tries to control her emotions.

She glances over at Ryan, then looks away quickly.

“What do you want, T?” I ask gently.

“I want them to love me for who I am!” she bursts out. “They’re all so fucking perfect! Every last one of them. I’m like the fucking black sheep of the family. I’m loud, I’m mouthy, I’m proud, I’m Hurricane Sebastiana, I’m nothing like them. I don’t even know how I came from the same gene pool. It’s like I was switched at birth. If I didn’t look so much like my mother, I’d probably believe I was,” she says, roughly swiping at the tears that have started to streak down her face.

“And you think the only way to gain their love, to prove your worth in your family is by becoming number one on the leaderboard?” I ask, reaching out to her and holding my hands palm up.

Her lips tremble. “Without that, what am I? I’m just a bratty girl who’s

lead a charmed life.”

I wiggle my fingers, inviting her again to take my hands. She leans forward, sliding her hands into mine.
