Anya had panicked. "Oh no, my boyfriend says the exact same things!"
The moment Leo got home that night, she interrogated him. "Leo, have you been feeding me empty promises?"
Leo was speechless.
The next day, Anya had more questions. "Leo, when you say you're working late, are you actually working late, or are you out at some shady club? Nope, hand over your phone. I need to check your credit card statements."
Leo was completely bewildered.
By the third day, Anya couldn't even focus on her TV shows. She sat on the sofa hugging a giant stuffed bear, waiting for him. "Leo!"
Leo swapped his shoes in the entryway. "Let's hear it. Did I make more empty promises, or am I cheating on you again?"
"Leo, do you secretly gamble?"
Leo sat on the sofa, snatched the bear out of her arms, and pulled her into his lap. "Give me your phone. I need to see what kind of deranged support group you joined. You're acting like there isn't a single decent man left on earth."
He scrolled through her phone and found a group chat titled, 'Women Wide Awake.'
Leo spent half the night reading the messages. The general consensus in the group was that all men were inherently evil. Without a second thought, he removed Anya from the group.
"Leo!" Anya's eyebrows scrunched together in a deep frown.
"If you keep reading this garbage, we're never going to make it to the altar."
Anya puffed her cheeks. "We aren't married yet!"
"We will be. You spend your dowry money every single day, and now you want to back out of the wedding?"
Thinking about her bank accounts, Anya mumbled, "I don't spend that much. I can pay you back."
Leo narrowed his eyes, studying her intently. "Do you actually want to back out?"
This time, it was Anya's turn to go silent.
