Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance novel Chapter 1938

"The swelling is going down. You really didn't need to buy all this fruit. And why the vegetables? I can't exactly cook in here."

"I thought you were staying at home and might have trouble going out for groceries, so I bought extra so you could cook," Anya explained. "But then Leo reminded me you might be at a hotel, so I just brought everything anyway." She hadn't expected to be wrong about the kitchen situation.

Janice smiled. "I'll keep the fruit, but take the vegetables back with you."

Anya looked around the room, confirming there was no stove. "Okay, fine."

"Has everyone at the office been asking about me?"

Anya nodded. "Don't worry, I didn't tell them anything. I just said you were on a business trip. If they keep asking, I'll tell them you went on vacation. It's not like they can dictate the boss's schedule, right? Oh, and some people tried to drag me out to a team dinner, but I thought they were acting suspicious, so I said no."

"How did you get out of it? Some of the people in that office can be pretty aggressive. How did a young girl like you manage to shake them off?"

"I told them I had to go meet my boyfriend's parents. I asked if they were willing to take responsibility for ruining my future marriage, and they didn't dare push it after that."

Janice laughed, the movement making her swollen face look a bit strained. Anya quickly grabbed a cold bottle of water from the mini-fridge and handed it to her to use as a makeshift ice pack.

"Did you actually go to his family's house?"

Anya nodded. "Yeah! His grandpa just had minor surgery, so me, my aunt, and my uncle's wife go over all the time to keep him company. We play games and watch horror movies to keep him entertained."

Mia had gotten the horror movie recommendations from Michael. "Give me something good to watch during dinner," she had demanded.

Michael had immediately sent her a list. "Who are you trying to terrorize, you rich psycho?"

"My dad," Mia replied casually.
