Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance novel Chapter 1654

She was even more annoyed. “Chunky, if Leo keeps putting his feelings first like this, I’m quitting.”

Chunky didn’t mince words. “Alyna, what makes you think the company can’t run without you? Or that it can’t succeed if you’re gone? You’re trying to use yourself as leverage to push Leo into ignoring his own family—where do you get that kind of confidence?

Listen, Anya is the boss’s wife. Right now, and always. You’re an employee. The way you acted today already ticked off both the boss and his wife. The only reason I’m here talking to you is because the boss couldn’t be bothered himself.

Know your place! This office doesn’t need you to survive.” Chunky pointed at Alyna’s desk for emphasis.

Then he walked out.

Later, Leo dropped Anya off at Maplewood Estates. He waited until she disappeared inside, his smile fading as he got back in the car and drove to the studio.

“Chunky, did you talk to her?” Leo asked.

Chunky nodded and followed Leo into his office. “She’s got the skills, but honestly? Her attitude is a problem.”

Leo’s face darkened. He hadn’t brought it up while Anya was around. “Ms. Anya suddenly wants to leave—does Alyna really think Anya is clueless?”

The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. “I’m leaving early tonight. I need to pick up Ms. Anya. If Alyna steps out of line again, I’ll start recruiting her replacement myself!”

Chunky tried to calm him down. “Leo, relax. Let’s just watch for a bit longer.”

Meanwhile, at Maplewood Estates, Anya sat by the outdoor pool, watching her little one splash around. He was having a blast, but Anya just couldn’t shake her mood.

Mia strolled over with two tall glasses of iced drinks and handed one to Anya. “Come on, hang out with your aunt for a bit. Let’s talk.”

“Auntie…” Anya hesitated, not sure how to start.

Mia still had a faint love bite on her collarbone. She’d planned to swim today, but when she saw the mark while putting on her swimsuit, she thought better of it. The staff wouldn’t dare ask, but her son? He’d ask a million questions and never let it go.

Mia nudged further. “How does your uncle feel about it?”

“He’s on your side,” Anya replied.

Mia nodded. “Then just let it go. Don’t ask, don’t interfere. Act like you don’t even know.”

Anya rested her chin on her hand. “I haven’t said anything.”

Henry, after a big gulp of his mom’s passionfruit tea, eyed his sister’s watermelon juice and quickly swapped glasses, hugging the new one to himself.

The two women kept talking. Mia said softly, “The person who’s the most upset about all this is Leo. You know what kind of guy he is—he’d never let you be treated badly.”

Anya shook her head, her mind full of Leo. “Auntie, if Alyna really can help Chad, it doesn’t matter if I’m uncomfortable.”
