Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 987

“Fine, fine, you can have your shower! Just stop moving for a second!” Larry said, his head throbbing. He lifted her onto the bathroom counter and draped the towel around her again.

“Don’t you move until I get back,” he warned sternly, “or no shower for you. Got it?”

“Okay,” she mumbled, finally settling down.

Larry returned moments later with a set of clean pajamas. Sarah was soaked to the skin and couldn’t possibly sleep in wet clothes. Since he didn’t have any women’s clothing, his would have to do. Seeing him, she brightened up again. “Can I take a shower now?” she asked with a silly grin.

“You bet.” Of course, he had no intention of actually letting her. She was far too drunk to be left alone in a bathroom. And he certainly wasn't going to wash her. Instead, he turned on the faucet, scooped some water into his hands, and gently splashed it on her face. Then he held her hands under the running water, letting her feel the stream.

After this little charade, he patted her dry with a fresh towel and announced, “Alright, shower’s over. Time to get changed.”

In her state, Sarah was easily fooled. “Okay!” she chirped happily, hopping off the counter. She was so unsteady on her feet that she nearly stumbled into the wall, but Larry caught her just in time.

“Can you… manage?” he asked, his brow furrowed in doubt.

“Of coursh I can!” Sarah slurred, but then she grabbed the collar of her own shirt and started yanking at it, not even bothering with the buttons.

Closing his eyes tightly, Larry carefully helped her out of her wet clothes. He tried his best to avoid touching her skin, but it was impossible with her swaying and stumbling around, completely oblivious to any sense of propriety. She leaned against him, mumbling impatiently, “Are you done yet? My feet are tired…”

Her warm, smooth skin pressing against him made Larry’s face burn. “Sarah, for the love of God, remember you’re a girl!” he exclaimed.

The shout seemed to startle the sleepy drunk awake. She blinked, her beautiful eyes wide with innocence. “You’re so loud. Can you please be quiet?”

Larry was speechless. This woman was sent to torture him. Why did he let her stay? Why did they drink? Regret washed over him again, but it was too late. He took a deep breath, turned his head away, and, without bothering with the pajama buttons, pulled the top over her head and guided her arms through the sleeves.
