Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 980

“Oh, that’s just heartbreaking. Larry has been through so much.”

“The entire Adams family… they’re a bunch of heartless monsters!”

“How could anyone be so cruel to a mother and her child?”

“Larry is their own flesh and blood. He was so young and had already lost his mother. How could they just stand by and watch him suffer?”

“That’s a bit of an exaggeration, isn’t it? The elder Mr. Adams seemed to care about Larry.”

“Please. He’s just an old man wracked with guilt. He brought Larry back to offer him a few scraps and ease his own conscience.”

“Exactly. If he was really so kindhearted, would he have stood by while his own grandson was treated like that for so many years?”

“It’s sickening. Just look at the difference between Brian and Larry. They’re both grandsons of the Adams family, but who in Cabinda would dare to publicly humiliate Brian?”

That remark struck a chord. Many had either heard stories or witnessed firsthand how Larry was bullied and ridiculed by the sons and daughters of other prominent families, often at Brian’s instigation or by those seeking to curry favor with him. None of it would have been possible without the tacit approval of the Adams family.

“That old man is no saint either. Forget the past—just look at tonight. If he truly accepted Larry, why would he choose today of all days to announce Brian as the heir?”

“Today isn’t just Kimberly Howard’s birthday; it’s also the anniversary of Samantha Lane’s death! That old man has always been biased!”

“A family of sanctimonious hypocrites, especially that stepmother. She had the entire upper crust of Cabinda fooled!”

The Adams clan, along with their shareholders and senior executives, were caught completely off guard, unsure of what to do next. It was Mr. Adams who, despite his own turmoil, managed to oversee the disastrous conclusion.

Camila glanced at Larry, then turned to Dennis. “Should we head back now?”

Dennis nodded, then placed a hand on Larry’s shoulder. “Let’s go home, Larry.”

“Okay,” Larry replied, his voice hoarse.

He turned to leave the banquet hall, Camila and Dennis falling into step behind him, followed by the Williams family and Sarah Brown.

Just as they reached the door, Mr. Adams’s voice, filled with rage, echoed from behind them. “Larry! Are you satisfied now, seeing the Adams family like this?”
