Neither of them could believe the sheer stupidity of the mother-son duo.
Joseph had known Kimberly arranged to have Larry intercepted, fearing he would ruin Brian's big night. But he never imagined they would go this far, let alone be foolish enough to target Dennis Williams.
Dennis’s identity was no simple matter. He wasn't just backed by the Williams family; he was backed by the country itself. The Smith Group and his personal contributions to the military and scientific research meant he was protected by the highest powers. Attacking him was a death wish.
He had the entire official network of Cabinda at his disposal, and his private resources were even more formidable. Only a madman would make an enemy of him.
Joseph wanted to scream at them, but in front of this crowd, he had to restrain himself. He couldn't allow the Adams family to become an even bigger joke. With arrest warrants issued, there was no room for resistance.
Mr. Adams, realizing this, said nothing, his face a grim mask as the officers moved forward.
“No, I won’t go! I can’t go to the police station!” Kimberly panicked, turning to her husband. “Honey, I don’t want to go with them! Stop them!”
Brian looked desperately at his father. “Dad, they can’t take us away! It’s all lies, we didn’t do anything! I’m not going!”
They seemed to have forgotten what the officer had said earlier.
“Mr. Joseph Adams is also under suspicion. He may have been aware of the circumstances surrounding the death of Larry Adams’s mother and could have been an accomplice after the fact. We need to question him thoroughly.”
At this, Joseph finally grew frantic. He rushed forward, trying to negotiate in a low voice. “Officer, could you please delay the arrest for a little while? Tonight is a very important occasion for our family, and with so many people here, we need to save some face.”
A wave of shock and chatter washed over the remaining guests.
“The police confirmed everything. So, there really was another side to the story all those years ago?”
“So Mrs. Adams was the mistress who schemed her way to the top, Mr. Adams was the cheating husband, and they might have even conspired to kill his first wife, then blamed her for it?”
“Is there any doubt? They not only slandered her for over twenty years, making her take the fall as a mistress and a murderer, but they didn't even spare her son…”
“My god, he was just a little boy. He lost his mother and had to live with people calling her a murderer, all while being mistreated by his own family. To atone for his mother’s supposed sins, he gave up everything and left, just so he wouldn’t have to fight for the inheritance?”
