Melissa’s earlier outburst had worsened her back injury. What should have been a minor strain now required a hospital stay. Not wanting her mother to travel back and forth, Camila arranged for someone to bring some necessities from home.
Dennis, ever attentive to his future mother-in-law’s needs, immediately had her moved to a top-tier private suite to ensure she could rest without disturbance. He also posted two bodyguards outside her door.
Camila personally administered acupuncture and massaged her mother’s back for a while, which seemed to alleviate some of the pain. Afterward, she instructed, “You absolutely cannot move around today. Just lie in bed. If you feel better tomorrow morning, we can check you out and you can continue recovering at home.”
“I know.” Melissa didn’t dare be stubborn again, not wanting to worry her family. She lay still, obedient.
Camila had planned to stay the night, but her father wouldn’t hear of it. “What are you doing staying here? Susan took Lillian home; she must be waiting for you. The little one was probably terrified today and won’t be able to sleep well. You need to go back and be with her.”
But Camila was still worried.
Jerry waved a dismissive hand, feigning annoyance. “I can take care of my own wife. How am I supposed to shine if you’re here?” He then looked at Dennis. “Dennis, take her home now.”
Camila couldn’t help but chuckle, but she didn’t insist on staying.
Dennis didn’t try to persuade her otherwise. He simply told his future father-in-law, “If you need anything at all, just let the bodyguards know.”
“Alright, alright, I will.” Jerry nodded. Under the circumstances, there was no need for pleasantries.
With everything settled, Camila finally left, feeling at ease. Sarah and the others left with them, parting ways at the hospital entrance.
“Thank you for everything today,” Camila said, genuinely touched by their support. “I’m sorry I can’t treat you to dinner tonight. Let’s reschedule for another day.”
They had originally come to meet up with her and Dennis for dinner, only to find out about the incident and rush over.
Sarah shook her head. “Dinner can wait. You should hurry home to my precious goddaughter. She must be worried sick.”
“Okay, you’re right. We’ll get going then.”
Camila and Dennis didn’t delay any longer, rushing straight home.
It was nearly ten o’clock when they walked through the door. Normally, Lillian would have been asleep long ago. But tonight, clearly affected by the day’s events, she refused to sleep. She sat on the sofa, clutching her favorite pink fox plushie, her head constantly turning toward the door.
