Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 848

A wave of gratitude washed over them. Melissa looked at him, her eyes misting over. “Thank you for protecting Camila like this.”

As parents, all they had ever wanted was for their daughter to find someone who would truly love and cherish her for the rest of her life. Jordan Smith’s past actions had broken their hearts and made them wary of trusting anyone else with Camila, including Dennis.

Dennis had surely sensed their resistance, yet he had never gotten angry or given up on Camila. Instead, he had proven himself through his actions. In the few days they had been in Cabinda, they had seen firsthand that his devotion to their daughter and granddaughter was real. The contrast between Dennis and Jordan was stark. They now hoped, more than anything, that this young man would become their son-in-law.

Sensing the shift in their attitude, Dennis smiled warmly. “Mr. and Mrs. Davis, there’s no need for such formality.”

Larry chimed in, “Exactly! We’re all going to be family soon!”

Jerry gave the two young people a meaningful look. It was true. His daughter had already been spirited away for days… there was no denying it now.

After a moment, Sarah brought the conversation back to the matter at hand. She turned to Dennis. “Mr. Williams, I don’t understand. Why did you agree to let them visit Lillian? You saw what that family is like. Once they get their claws into Lillian, it will never end! They’ll shamelessly use her as an excuse to keep bothering Camila. You’ll never be able to get rid of them.”

Camila was also confused about this. “Do you have a plan?” she asked him.

Dennis knew they didn’t want the Smiths anywhere near the child, but his approach was more pragmatic. “Getting them to give up now is impossible,” he explained to Camila. “You’ve seen how unreasonable they are. Instead of wasting more time fighting, it’s better to just agree. They want to see the child? Fine, let them. After a while… they’ll give up on their own.”

The others listened, not quite understanding. “Are you sure they’ll give up? What are you planning to do?”

This time, Dennis didn’t answer directly. “You’ll see.”

“Why are you being so mysterious?” Camila grumbled, but she knew Dennis was a man of many strategies. If he wasn’t ready to talk, she wouldn’t press him. “But if we do this, what about Lillian? Will she be okay with it?”

Camila knew better than anyone how much her daughter recoiled from the Smiths. The girl had practically willed herself to have amnesia to avoid them.
