Her protests were cut short as a security guard clamped a hand over her mouth and dragged her away.

Camila shook her head. “I didn’t bring it—since I was with you today.”

She didn’t say it outright, but the trust was clear. Dennis’ eyes darkened with guilt. “That’s my fault—at least you didn’t get hurt.”

Just then, Camila remembered Nathan Gates and Jarvis Peters, who had stepped in to help when Lavinia lunged at her. Out of courtesy, she turned to Nathan. “Nathan, thank you for your help back there.”

Nathan stiffened awkwardly. Truth be told, he’d only acted on orders from his boss. Yet here he was, the only one getting thanked. He shot a quick glance at his employer, Jordan Smith, whose expression remained unreadable, as if he couldn’t care less.
