Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 1265

When Dennis showed up at the research institute, Mr. Morris happened to be walking out of the lab. Dennis got straight to the point and explained why he was there. Mr. Morris paused, looking genuinely surprised. He hadn’t expected Dennis to talk about marriage now, of all times.

“Are you really sure about this?” Mr. Morris’s tone shifted, turning serious.

Most people had no idea what was really going on, but Mr. Morris did. He’d just looked over his student’s medical report that morning. Even though he’d confirmed Dennis’s feelings for his student the day before, he still felt the need to remind him, “Dennis, we’re nowhere close to a cure. To be honest, what if… what if we fail, or we’re too late? Then Camila might…”

Dennis’s brow tightened, his whole face growing more intense. He cut in, “Camila is the only one I want. Before her, I never thought about getting married. I didn’t even care what my future wife might be like. It was only after meeting her that I started thinking about the future at all. I believe she’s going to make it. But even if things don’t work out… she’s still the only one I’ll ever marry. I don’t want to just sit around waiting for something to happen and then regret it for the rest of my life. I want to do this now, while I still can.”

Mr. Morris was taken aback, almost stunned by his sincerity. He understood what Dennis meant. Not getting married would be a regret for both Dennis and Camila. Their relationship had already weathered so many storms. If the two of them had already decided, what right did anyone else have to stop them?

Mr. Morris was moved by how deeply Dennis cared.

After a long pause, he finally nodded. “I understand. After hearing you say all that, how could I stop you? I’ll talk to Camila’s parents about it.”

“Thank you. I really appreciate you handling this.”

With that, Dennis stood up and said his goodbyes.

As Mr. Morris watched Dennis leave, a small smile creased the corners of his eyes. The more he saw of Dennis, the more he liked him. Love like his was rare these days. He hoped his student would get lucky and pull through. If she could just make it past this, her future was bound to be bright.

Dennis left the institute and headed straight to the Collins family estate. The text he’d gotten that morning was from the elder Mr. Collins himself. Dennis would have preferred not to deal with anyone from the Collins family, but he knew how persistent they could be. If he didn’t agree to see them, they’d just find another way to corner him.

Dennis had nothing but contempt for the Collins family. His whole drive there, a chill hung in the air around him, his face stone-cold and unreadable.

When he stepped out of the car, the Collins family butler was waiting and hurried over to open the door. “Mr. Allen,” he greeted respectfully.

Dennis didn’t give the staff any trouble, just gave a slight nod. He couldn’t have been more distant.
