Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 1260

Dennis didn’t think too much about it. After turning off the bedside lamp, he simply lay down and fell asleep next to her.

The next morning, Camila stood at the sink, brushing her teeth, when her nose started bleeding again.

This time, she kept her cool. She calmly stopped the bleeding, cleaned up the blood, and carried on as if nothing had happened.

Her peace lasted until she started brushing her hair. When she glanced down, the comb was tangled with way more hair than usual.

This wasn’t just normal shedding.

Camila had seen plenty of people lose all their hair because of illness. Compared to them, her own situation seemed mild, but she knew what this meant. Her body was starting to fail.

The calm front she tried so hard to maintain finally began to crumble.

Panicking a little, she tried to get rid of the fallen hair, hoping that if she just cleaned it up, she could somehow ignore the truth. But the more she rushed, the worse she made it.

Right then, Dennis opened the door and walked in.

Camila wanted to tell him to get out, but as she turned toward him, she felt that familiar warm, itchy feeling in her nose.

A second later, blood started to trickle out again. She froze, staring at Dennis, not sure what to do.

Dennis’s heart dropped. From the way Camila reacted, he could tell this wasn’t the first time. But he didn’t get upset. He just took the comb from her hand, set it aside, and grabbed some tissues to gently wipe away the blood.

Only then did he speak, his voice soft but tight. “What’s going on? Are you in pain? Why didn’t you tell me about the nosebleeds?”

“It doesn’t hurt…”

His tone was gentle, but she could hear the worry trembling in his voice.

Camila felt a lump in her throat and tears threatened to spill. She looked away, like a kid caught doing something wrong. “I’m sorry. I didn’t want to hide it from you. The nosebleeds started the night before last, but I was scared you’d worry. I just wanted to figure out what was happening first. It’s not that I didn’t want to tell you… I just didn’t want you to be scared or upset, so…”

Dennis’s brows drew together, his eyes clouded with concern.

He quickly pushed those feelings down and wrapped his arms around her, holding her close. “It’s okay, Camila. Don’t be scared. We’ll go ask Master what’s going on.”

Jerry didn’t think much of it. He nodded. “No problem. You guys go do what you need to. We’ll take care of Lillian.”

“Thanks.”

Dennis helped Camila into her coat and led her out the door. On the drive to the research institute, he tried to act calm, but Camila could feel the worry radiating off him. A shadow lingered in his eyes. He drove faster than usual, cutting the trip in half.

When they arrived, Jarvis and Mr. Williams were already there. Camila was taken for her check-up.

Dennis didn’t waste any time. “Master, please be honest with me. What’s really happening with Camila? Is it serious? Why is she suddenly bleeding?”

Mr. Williams was caught off guard by the question and Dennis’s serious look. “Another nosebleed? How did you find out so quickly?” He let out a helpless sigh. “That girl… she asked us not to tell you, but she couldn’t keep it from you herself.”

Dennis’s voice turned colder. “I care about her. I notice every tiny change.”

He’d felt something was off these past couple days, but since she didn’t say anything, he tried not to push. He pretended not to notice.

But this morning, seeing her nosebleed with his own eyes, and the hair on her comb, he couldn’t ignore it anymore. All he wanted now was the truth about her condition.
