“Alright, if you want to knit, go for it.”
Dennis couldn’t resist spoiling her. As far as he was concerned, if Camila was happy, she could do whatever she wanted.
Besides the little picture frame for their daughter, they ended up buying bags of yarn on a whim. When they came home, Melissa was hanging out in the living room. She noticed all the yarn and raised an eyebrow. “Why did you guys buy so much yarn?”
She wandered over for a closer look and realized they’d picked up not just yarn but a whole set of knitting needles and supplies.
Camila grinned at her. “Honestly, it’s just to pass the time. I’m not exactly busy lately. I figured, since winter isn’t over yet, I’d knit a scarf for Lillian, for Dennis, and for you and Dad too.”
Melissa couldn’t help but laugh. “For all of us? Do you even know how to knit?”
She knew her daughter inside out. Camila had always been all about her medical studies, never really interested in anything outside of that world.
Camila looped an arm around her mom’s shoulder. “That’s why I have you, right? I still remember you knitting me gloves when I was little. Will you show me how?”
“So you’ve already decided I’m teaching you?” Melissa teased, but there was no hint of refusal in her voice. “Knitting takes patience, you know. Are you sure you’re up for it?”
Camila nodded right away. “Of course. If there’s one thing I’m not short on, it’s patience.”
“Alright, then I’ll teach you.”
Melissa grabbed a ball of yarn and the needles, and Camila watched closely, following every step. The yarn felt awkward in her hands at first, her stitches all over the place, but after a bit of practice, she started to get the hang of it.
“Mom, is this how you do this part?” Camila would pause and ask, wanting to make sure she was doing it right.
“Yep, your stitches are looking good. Just remember to add a stitch right here…”
Melissa was endlessly patient, guiding her through each row. After a while, Camila realized knitting wasn’t as tough as she’d thought. The beginning was messy, but once she found her rhythm, it started making sense.
She still wasn’t used to it, though. Two hours in and her scarf was barely four inches long, just a tiny square in her hands. But she felt so proud of herself.
Dennis raised an eyebrow. “Are you sure?”
She usually wasn’t this forward, but tonight was different. And honestly, he wasn’t about to turn her down. He scooped her up without another word and carried her straight to the bathroom.
“If Camila’s inviting me like this, how could I possibly say no?”
His words were loaded with meaning, and for once, Camila didn’t shy away. She met him with just as much passion, pulling him into a kiss the second they stepped inside.
Soon, the bathroom filled with steam and the soft sounds of water, the kind of intimacy that left the whole room swirling with warmth.
Afterwards, Camila was so tired she could hardly stand, so Dennis carried her out and gently dried her hair. As she drifted off to sleep, she instinctively curled up in his arms, looking so sweet and soft.
Dennis held her close, completely content, and couldn’t help but notice how extra clingy Camila was tonight.
