“You need to wake up, Iris.”
But how could Iris possibly wake up?
She was practically grinding her teeth from how much she hated Audrey Williams.
That woman was even harder to deal with than Iris had imagined.
The video—Audrey definitely recorded it on purpose, just to get back at her for ignoring her earlier.
Now, even Walter and the rest of their friends didn’t believe her.
That bitch!
After Walter led Audrey away, she completely forgot about the others, her mind already buzzing with excitement, waiting for Walter to teach her how to play.
Walter saw how cheerful and innocent she looked and felt a little guilty. He looked down at Audrey and asked, “Why didn’t you come find me if they were giving you trouble?”
Usually she was so quick-witted.
Audrey beamed up at him. “Honestly, I didn’t see it coming with them. And who says I was bullied? Didn’t I just win in the end?”
Walter couldn’t help but feel exasperated at how straightforward she was.
This girl really was cunning.
That video was definitely on purpose.
Still, he couldn’t help feeling annoyed, completely unimpressed with Iris and the others.
He picked up the cue stick he’d set aside and, his voice gentler, called out, “Come here, I’ll show you.”
“Coming!”
Audrey bounced over to him, grinning.
Walter asked, “So, from watching them, what did you pick up?”
Audrey took the cue from his hand, bent over the table, and giggled. “I learned how to pose, I guess? Like this? I didn’t really get the rest.”
Walter couldn’t help but smile at that.
“You honestly didn’t learn a thing. Even your stance is off.”
He stepped closer, his hand brushing her waist as he adjusted her position. “Here, lower this a bit.
Keep your eyes forward. Rest the cue just above your thumb...”
He didn’t say much, but every word was practical.
When Audrey still couldn’t get the technique down, Walter leaned in behind her, helping her line up the shot.
“Look at the white ball. Line up three points. Aim for the pocket...”
That snapped them both back to reality.
Audrey looked back at Harden with a grin. “Alright, alright, I’ll focus now.”
Walter just shot Harden a cool look and said, “Mind your own business.”
Harden pouted and thought, Like I’m the one exaggerating. You don’t even realize how much you’re flirting, do you? Or actually, you both are.
They weren’t even together yet, and the vibes were already so sweet.
If they ever became a couple, how would anyone else survive it?
Not far away, Iris was fuming as she watched Walter not only teaching Audrey himself, but standing so close their faces were nearly touching.
She’d started out as a beginner too, but Walter had never taught her. He’d never even gotten close.
But with Audrey, their faces were almost close enough to kiss.
Amy noticed too and couldn’t stop herself from muttering, “Ugh, Audrey is so shameless. Just look at her, making Mr. Wilson teach her like that. Seriously, doesn’t she have any self-respect?”
She didn’t even realize how much her words cut into Iris’s heart.
If Iris could, she’d throw self-respect out the window too.
But she never even got the chance.
